Solved How do i OC my RAM?

how can I OC my ram from 1866 to say maybe 2133?

I know this is very general, but I want to learn how to do it. I have g.skill ripjaws 4x2 8GB 1866 and asus mobo.

my current mem speed is 24392.25 MB/s. I want that a bit higher....

You want to OC ram you do it through the FSB
everytime you move it from base clock say 200 to 201 the ram moves up like 10 MHz

205- 15 MHz you will notice odd ram speeds once you start doing this

Mind you when FSB overclocking you will have to down clock the Multiplyer too

because the ram oc will also change the freq of the cpu clock so you have to watch both

You're also going to run into voltage issues. Might have to increase cpu/nb/ram voltage. This is NOT an easy task. First off, can your CPU handle such high frequency ram?

Not that I know off. In the bios, the ram has an automatic setting where you can pick 1333, 1600, 1866 etc etc. Have you tried that. Other than that, not that I know off.

ya I have that, but at 1.6v its unstable if I up it from 1866 to 2133.... what are the timings for than?

it wont even boot at 2133 with 1.6v...... owell. I really don't want to OC the FSB and have to mess with everything.

Best thing for you to do is read what limits your ram will do by manual overclock no way around it

AMD and FSB are like buddies the more you feed it the better it responds and benches

you should try to lowing your ram to 1600 and up clock it

Now you could do a slight FSB oc and drop the multi by 1 and try to push that extra 100 MHz to see if it benefits

I took 1600mhz and ran it at 1765mhz I even got it to roll to 1800mhz corsair vengeance on stock voltage read what the limitations are first then proceed

im at 2133MHz @ 10, 11, 10, 32 @ 1.5V (stock voltage) I wish I could go to 2400MHz but when I do I have to set the CPU/NB to 2400MHz rather than the stock 2200MHz. and I don't want to risk stability with changing that yet.

I went from 24392.25 MB/s at 1866MHz to 24512.70 MB/s at 2133MHz.

how does that sound?

ran prime, and it failed instantly. so screw it. not worth the extra 200mb/s

Most of the time, I've found it's really not worth the time/effort/risk to overclock RAM. Unless you happen to have a kit that is just ripe for OC'ing you generally won't gain much. 1866MHz and that much memory bandwidth is actually really good for AMD. I'd leave it be.
