I hope this is a place where i am suppose to post this.

But I have been battling my ISP for 2 years now and just needed a second thought from an outside source. Sometimes randomly my computer will disconnect from the internet for like 3 seconds and reconnect. This give my computer enough time to display the "No Internet" yellow triangle aswell kick me off of any active logged in website.

I have replaced cables, the ISP as came out and replaced my modem and even installed a new cable line into my apartment. But it still happens. I can be just sitting at my desktop reading emails and it happens.

The ISP says it is my computer but I don't think it is because every other device on the network loses internet aswell. The best part is the ISP can't see it on their end.

I just wanted to see if i could pick some peoples brains.

Vaughn

Have you tried to start up in safe mode with networking or a clean boot? It's about the only way to track down these strange 3 second disconnection problems.

If the problem goes away in safe mode you can be sure the problem is caused by something installed on the system which can be fixed by process of elimination.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...tworking-add-windows-boot-manager-screen.html

Yea, I tried that with the ISP tech that came to my apartment. he spent 2 hours here while we was in safe mode and it didn't do anything. So he left.... then an hour later it happened.

I even did a format and didn't install any 3rd party software or devices for a week and it still happened. But like it said, it also kicks my laptop (wireless) and my cell (wireless) offline for a few seconds.

It's at complete random. It could be fine for a month then happen 3 or 4 times in a weekend. I have "Green Ethernet" turned off aswell.

Not to come back to an old thread of mine but the issue is still happening even after replacing all cables and the modem. It happens to both my laptop and desktop. would a static IP be abit better and maybe disable some of these ethernet settings?

Is your ISP Comcast by any chance?

No Eastlink. I live in a very small town in Canada.

The advice to run in safe mode would eliminate that possibility.

If this happens on more than one machine even in safe mode then the problem is on their end or the modem is messed up.

If you can give me the model numbers of the modem I can look around and see what I find.

My SBG6580 was doing this but only the wireless part. There was too much interference and had to manually set the channel to 9.

Tell me. Do you use a wireless router or comes with the modem? Do you connect your pc straight to the modem throught a cable or do you use wireless router?

model number is Motorola SBG6580

I figured that was the one. This particular modem/router has been plagued with the same problems as reported pretty much everywhere online. There is no common solution that I can find and this same problems has been around for a long time. It has nothing to do with Windows 7.

If you do a search you can't believe the number of complaints about the SBG6580 just randomly dropping connections on a regular basis.

I can only suggest using a regular modem, not a combo unit like a modem/router. Then connect the regular modem to a non ISP provided router. I have zero faith in these so called modem/routers.

Hmm this might be an idea. I use to have a wireless router and a normal modem but they forced upgraded me to this damn thing. I can't go back either.

I don't see why you can't. Maybe your internet provider just wants to be sure your are using a DOCSIS-3 modem. I have Comcast and bought my modem from BestBuy (will not lease anything from my internet provider) after I saw that it is a supported modem.

I'd suggest what chev65 said and see if you can get a separate modem and router. Check on Eastlink's website and see which ones are supported.

Maybe modems like this:
MOTOROLA SB6121 Modem - Newegg.com
or
Zoom 5341-00-00J Modem - Newegg.com

Sorry to double post another issue but maybe you kind sirs can help me with a related issue. I was given second hand ethernet pcie card to try and see if that was my issue but when I install it and boot my computer up.. it turns on but nothing else happens. I only ever used a onboard ethernet port so pcie ethernet cards are a mystery to me. What did i do wrong?

Maybe you have the card installed incorrectly causing the computer not to boot. Can you post a pic of what the card/slot looks like?

I know the card is a PCIe and the only slots i have left are PCIe since i installed my Radeon 5700 series. It just seems like it won't work with either slot on my mobo.
