Hello,

Ive had, for aslong as I can remember, despite the upgrades from ie9 to ie10, 2 versions of IE ...

What I mean is, in my system files,
I have 2 folders ...
one ... Program Files,
and a second ... Program Files 86 (86),

in both of these folders contains an Internet Explorer folder, with a version in each ...

if I open a program that requires the IE to open, it will sometimes open one, it'll sometimes open the other ...

for eg ... if I open the version in 'Program Files' ... it'll be without the Norton toolbar ...
if I open the version in Program Files (86)... Norton will be installed in this version ? ...

is this mean to be ?

Many thanks,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

The 2 folder (program files) that you mentioned. first one (without x86) is for 32 bit programs. The other one is for 64 bit programs. IE is also available for both versions i.e. 32 and 64 bit in Win 7. This is normal.

All 64 bit versions of Windows will have a 32 bit and 64 bit version of Internet Explorer. The 32 bit version in "Program files(x86)" and the 64 bit version in "Program files". This is by design.

brilliant, thanks for both replies, has eased my mind - thought it was a dodgy install or something ... happy now.

The 32 bit version is the default so any program or link that launches IE will launch the 32 bit version. If you look though your start menu you will see the two of them listed. I don't remember exactly where, maybe under all programs or accessories. I'm on my Windows 8 PC.

Hello,

I am Vineeth and I am from the Norton Support team.

As Archer said, you have a 32 bit Internet Explorer and 64 bit Internet Explorer. Norton Toolbar is compatible only with the 2 bit version of Internet Explorer. That is the reason why you don't see the Norton Toolbar in the 64 bit version of IE.

Let me know if that helps!

Thanks!

If you are running IE10 or 11, you will not have 2 different versions of Internet Explorer in the start menu, this only applies to IE8 and IE9

Indeed IE10 or IE11 do not show 2 different versions in the start menu. There are still IE folders in both Program Files, and Program Files (x86). A Guy
