Update to Internet Explorer 11 Fails, Error 9C47

Hello all, I'm running a custom built computer that doesn't seem to want to update to IE 11 (or 10 for that matter). I'm running IE 9.0.8112.16421 currently.

The error code I get from the Windows Update is 9C47. I then get a link to install prerequisites which either don't apply to my machine, or are already installed.

1) I ran and installed the SURT
2) I did the SFC scan which found no discrepancies
3) The windows update error code is 9C47
4) I have attached the CBS logs.

I am not very good with coding or understanding the windows registry. I did contract a Virus/Trojan that corrupted windows firewall and a few other things a while back (maybe 6-9months), but I was able to remove it using a few techniques I found online. All virus scans with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebites comes up clean. I did have to restore the firewall function using some DIY things I found online.

I know there are some geniuses on this forum that have helped others in my situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

Seems there are a few fixes for this and not all work for everyone, can you follow through with some of the suggestions here: Update to I.E. 11, Get Error 9c47 - Microsoft Community ------ Then report back and let us know if you could fix it?

Before doing any of these, please make sure your data is backed up just in case. Please disregard Pinaki Mohanty's (Support Engineer) Method #3 suggestion. Only use that as a worst case scenario fix.

Hello, and thank you for the suggestions. I followed the link you provided and tried both methods. In both cases it said that no problems were found and nothing was done/installed.

I then ran a check-disk on the system drive which also completed successfully.

I tried to re-install IE 11 and received the same error as always.

Any other ideas?

Try the other suggestions listed by other members. I don't think what that guy suggested is the best course of action. Those engineers often think its always a simple fix and if that doesn't work, reinstall...

If you keep going through the thread, other people posted different things that fixed their issue.

I just noticed that I've seen this set of errors before (or at least almost identical ones).

Have you been using any kind of 'System Cleaner' or 'Registry Optimizer'?? If so, which one?

The first few files in this list have incorrect filenames, according to the general rules - No MUM or CAT file names should ever have spaces in them (My copies of what should be the same files don't).

Let's have a look-see at the registry and see if I can work out what's going on...


I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or SkyDrive) and post a link.

Thanks again for your fast reply.

I have not used any of the registry cleaner programs. I suspect this happened when I contracted the trojan that took much effort to remove. My system functions normally now other than this update..

I might want to try using one of the free registry cleaners to try and clean out any registry entries that are errors or possible registry entries left behind. This might help ya out by doing this.

After sitting here confused out of my mind what was happening, I finally realised. Download the attachment and have a look at the logs - they have the correct package names :) John has set up automatic expansion of Win7 to Windows 7 to save people time, but this is the first time I've seen it happen in a log.
