Solved BF4

You'd get better performance and the game would look a bit better with weapon dof and motion blur off.

i like them on. i like that "realistic" feeling when u turn your eyes fast around.

at 200% i get 30FPS. just for sh!ts and giggles lol

Lol that's a bit of a hit enit.
I used to get a mahooosive fps hit around C flag on siege of shanghai when the building had been bought down but disabling weapon dof solved that for me with no noticeable difference to the look of the game.

Sorry if this belongs in either the video card thread or hardware thread, but I got BF4 for christmas and I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my pc? It ran ok on my system, but I'm getting some random slow downs and choppiness.

My pc:
XPS 9000 (dell)
i7-920
6gb RAM
HD 5870

Yeah, the system is a few years old now. Should I get more RAM or a new video card AND more RAM?

I didn't get a lot of time to mess with many of the settings. I tried it on ultra, high, then medium.

I also wasn't running the latest AMD drivers either, so I downloaded 13.12 and installed it, but didn't have time to see if it made a big difference.

I just read about unparking cores and that it might help with the framerate?

I don't need to run the game on ultra everything, I'd just like to get rid of the choppiness.

Thoughts?

Thanks, N00berG00ber. Any suggestions on a decently priced GPU? Should I get some more RAM along with it, or do you think a newer GPU should do the trick?

I'm looking at the Tom's Hardware GPU chart. Should I be looking at a 7870/GTX 580 or better?

My PSU is 475w. Not sure if I'd need to replace that as well.

6 GB of ramshould be fine. If u have extra u can get maybe 8gb of matching sticks. Whats ur max price cor a gpu? U can also OC your CPU a little too.

I'd like to stay around 200 if I can. Oh, I thought Dell's were locked for OC'ing? I'll look into that, too.

Thanks! I was just about to send you this one:
PNY VCGGTX660XPB GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Newegg.com

Looks like the one you sent might stay a little cooler since it's not as enclosed as the PNY one?

I just googled the 660 and my XPS and it looks like I'd be alright not getting a bigger PSU?

well, the minimum for that card is 450, and you have 475. so it comes to the question, how old is your PSU? PSU's degrade after some time, and they are something you DO NOT want to skimp on.
