Is Windows installed on this 3TB HDD or is it being used purely as a storage drive?

I have checked about this, it seems it will be a extra 7xx gb space for me
thats good but I cannot allocate the disk space myself, I would like to seperate a 100gb space for os or other system installed , and the other 2900gb for storage and gamming

Hi there

If your motherboard does NOT have UEFI you won't be able to boot a UEFI system -- however you can STILL use the entire 3TB HDD by converting it to a GPT disk. A GPT disk does NOT have to be on a UEFI system. I don't think though that W7 will allow a GPT disk to be bootable from a NON UEFI system so you'll have to use it as a second HDD and use another one for Boot. Often a good solution is to use a small SSD for the boot system and then you can use the entire 3TB.

If your system is UEFI capable then just enable it and you are good to go -- you DO NOT have to have protected boot for UEFI to be enabled. In fact IMO it's best to DISABLE protected boot and allow boot in "Legacy mode".

Cheers

Hi there, Thanks. I checked my motherboard asrock h81m which support uefi.

I put in my windows install disk and install it normally, turns out i can only use 1.99tb of it.
I checked this situation and thought I may have to use uefi boot to install it , problem is I dont really know how to do uefi boot. Thanks

To be specific
when i press "F11" at starting, i directed to the boot menu
but there are only two options , which are
AHCI P0: MY HARDDISK
AHCI P5: MY DVD ROM

where i can not find an option with uefi in it

It sounds like you will have to go into your BIOS and enable UEFI. If its turned off you will not get a UEFI option in the boot menu.

Thanks for reply, but how to do so? I saw CSM option there which I think may related to UEFI

You need to enable CSM it is probably disabled as your Motherboard supports Windows 8 ... Windows 7 requires the CSM (compatibility support module, e.g. legacy mode) to be enabled in BIOS setup. Specifically, Windows 7 video drivers require the CSM. While it is technically true that Windows 7 itself can support a legacy-free (CSM disabled) UEFI installation, not all OEM component drivers were updated for legacy-free.

What are the exact choices you have for the CSM setting in BIOS?

On some BIOS' you must Disable CSM to enable UEFI Boot. If you have want to mix MBR and GPT disks where the GPT is booting (as you do) then it would need the setting similar to "Both."

Anyone can tell me what should i set in CSM to use UEFI boot please

If you want to install to UEFI then you would choose the choices which clearly say to use these for UEFI.

I asked you what the exact choices are for CSM. Is there a setting for "Both?" You would use this if you want to mix GPT and MBR disks. Otherwise use UEFI only to boot to UEFI and use only GPT disks, or Legacy choices if you want to Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7

What installation medium are you using, DVD or flash stick? If flash stick use Rufus in Option One of UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows or you'lll need to manually do the file edit in the other options.

By using Load UEFI Defaults, you are in UEFI mode.

By DISABLING Secure Boot Windows 7 x64 DVD can boot & install Windows.
