Not all adware is the same so I don't know of any way to tell you precise steps.

Most people have more than 1 computer so getting on the internet is not as much of a problem. They simply use the other comp until there old one is fixed. If you only have 1 computer and you expect the internet to go out on it when you get a virus than steps should be taken before you get put in that situation.

If it was me i would make myself a bootable flash drive with an os of your choice and run that if i got stuck.

Here is one i have made myself.
Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

It is called kaspersky rescue disk 10 and it is basically a bootable antivirus with a web browser. So at least you have internet.
It is based off of linux.

Another option is make sure you have a system image. It is so much nicer to restore from an image than to be stuck with no internet trying to figure out what to do.

But like I said without knowing what adware/malware you are dealing with I cant give you any steps other than just run an antivirus program.

You can NOT rely on AdwCleaner to keep updating with the one download!!! You need to follow this procedure:

download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
After the scan has finished...

This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder

Removing/Uninstalling AdwCleaner:
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again. Click on the Uninstall button.
Click Yes when asked are you sure you want to uninstall.
Both AdwCleaner.exe, its folder and all logs will be removed.

***** This application is being continuously updated. It needs to be removed and then download a fresh version.

Is there a particular Adware you are concerned with?

There are different methods for removing Adware, as the different wares may have unique characteristics.

AdwCleaner is a good program, but, as a standalone program, it may, or may not be successful in removing certain things. Other programs may be necessary.

Unique characteristics? I never thought that every Adware has they very own characteristics before. Can you show me some examples?

Nio,

Bonanza Deals, ScorpionSaver, Savings Wave, FilesFrog Update Checker, SearchDonkey, Feven, MediaBar...

As an example of a different characteristic, MediaBar adds a firewall exception, ScorpionSaver adds a service which borks your access to the Internet, although your wireless connection shows you are connected...

Can't think of other unique quirks of Adware programs right at the moment, but the above can give you an idea. :tip:

Maybe someone else can remember other examples. :tip:

Some will bring up ads at any time, some (ransomeware) can lock your entire PC until you pay a large fee.

Adware serves ads, sometimes with unwanted popups which pop up blocker doesn't block.

Viruses generally do some malicious action, such as stealing a password or deleting files.

Hi,
steps just in case when there is no internet to ask for a help.

If no internet is available,
You would need to use Safe mode with networking to see if you can access a internet connection at boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html
If no joy you would need to use a power drain technic first,
Some nasty's do load quickly,
Shut down your machine, Unplug-Hold the power button down for 30/45 seconds (Laptops you would need to remove the battery) (Power Drain)
Power up and Tap the F8 key continuously until you see a black page with white text,
Use the down arrow key to toggle to Safe mode with Networking/ hit the enter key.
Login as usual
Once you achieve a network connection you can download numerous scanners to get rid of the nasty,
Cheers.
Then repeat the scans starting windows normally.
Do Not use the computer during the Full scans.

Nio,

It appears your system is affected with something.

Instead of asking general or vague questions which may or may not apply to what you have, it is best for you to describe what, exactly, is happening, and if you know the cause, what adware or malware is present.

Otherwise, we are playing games, and may be getting nowhere in a hurry, trying to guess from a crystal ball.

If that is the case, I personally do not do the let's play games approach, and my crystal ball is permanently broken. :busted:

Download DDS from one of these links:
DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.
