Right, I'll have to go out tomorrow and buy some. Any particular kind I should get? I am really unfamiliar with burning DVD's. Hence my reluctance up till now to run out and buy them.

The USB device may be defective, just try the DVD disk.

Okay, I just tried the Acer Windows 7 Upgrade Disk and I received a black screen with the message: BOOTMGR is missing

Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart

This error means you are not booting the disk correctly:

Put disk in drive, reboot and tap the Acer F10 key to get a boot menu, choose CD drive.

Aray, do you even know which key brings up your boot menu yet ?

The reason we gave you the links to the windows 7 iso file is so you could download a fresh iso , then put it on the flash drive using Wintobootic, it works perfectly.

I thought you had a properly working flash drive to do the install, what happened to it ?

You would download the ISO file on a good PC, which is a disk image, then write the ISO to a USB thumb drive OR a DVD. Then use one or the other to install Windows on the other PC. It is explained in tutorial. Be sure to follow the in-line links (blue characters) when necessary.

You wiped the OS (Windows 7) off your disk so there is nothing to boot into. Hence the black screen. You will need to load a new OS.

Update:

I've tried reinstalling Windows 7 twice tonight via usb (via tutorial) and received the same error. I even burned the iso to a different flash drive altogether and still received the same error. I don't know if using DVD's would make any difference. I'm calling it a night. See you guys tomorrow if you haven't already written me off as a lost cause.

Delete any iso files you previously downloaded.

Tomorrow, download a fresh iso, then put the iso on the flash drive using wintobootic or burn the iso to dvd using Imgburn. If you are still not sure how to ask, then please say so.

Your COA sticker it will tell you the exact edition of Windows 7 that was shipped with your Acer PC, It`s most likely Windows 7 Home Premium either 32 or 64 bit

If you tell me THE EXACT MODEL of your Acer pc, we can find out whether it was 32 or 64 bit.

If it sounds like we`re starting over, we are, because in over 200 posts you have gotten nowhere.

Hey, I noticed that on this guy's BIOS (in video) he has 4 options to choose from:

1) CD/DVD DRIVE
2) Hard drive
3) Removable Devices
4) Network Boot from Intel E1010

On my pc I only have three:

1) CD/DVD Drive
2) Hard Drive
3) USB: Generic Compac (which I assume is the same as removable devices)

Is there any significance to him having a 4th option, because my pc keeps telling me I am missing a Boot MGR?

Each time that I've attempted to reinstall windows I've been very mindful about 1) changing the boot device so that USB: Generic Compac is my 1st device, seeing as how I am using a flash drive. To do this I have to click the DEL key several times. And each time I am very careful to press F-12 so that I can boot device to my flash drive.

"Press any key to boot from CD or DVD. . . "

I have not once been prompted to do this. Whenever I change my boot device and press the enter key it goes straight to "Windows is loading files" just as it did when he clicked enter after being prompted to press any key.

You are not booting from a network. ( Don`t worry about that )

I have told you, you will not see this, you are not using a dvd.

You will only see that when you are using a good install dvd.

I have said that when using a flash drive it goes straight to windows is loading files.

And I have told you not to change the boot order in the bios, or it will keep booting from the flash drive over and over.

The boot order in the bios should be 1 dvd 2 hard drive

Use the 1 time boot menu key to boot from the flash drive and that`s it.

Might I strongly suggest you try one method and stick with it. Any one that has been given you will work. When you flip-flop between them is when you get in trouble.

We started out with the flash drive 2 weeks ago, and I thought he was done. :shock:

This thread is only two days old and is circling the drain.

I would like to point out something from my previously deleted post in this thread.

I think a pace needs to be set here, it is obvious that steps need to be spoonfed instead of the barrage that are otherwise commonplace in the threads here.

I think a step should be given and ONLY when a confirmation of that step has returned should the next step be given.

Obviously everyone is just trying to help but I think there are too many cooks.

If one person can take the lead so to speak and keep this thread on track there may be success yet.

The DVD approach has been suggested numerous times at the beginning pages of this thread. You must set your DVD drive as FIRST boot priority in your BIOS before you mount your Win7 DVD onto the tray. Have you successfully modified your boot priorities to CD/DVD-ROM?

You have 2 ways to go about the DVD method:
1) Use the pre-packaged Windows 7 Upgrade disc for a clean install (tutorial)
2) Use a downloaded genuine Windows 7 ISO

It is one or the other.

Learning how to burn onto discs is still an indispensable knowledge. If the USB route has consistently failed, you try another approach. We cannot expect successful results from the same failed process, ayt?

Okay, will do.

This PC came with Windows Vista. The COA sticker reads Windows Vista. The PC came with an ACER Windows 7 upgrade disc. If you are asking which version of Windows the upgrade disk was, it was a Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. This is a 64bit machine. Acer Aspire M3202.

I thought it was interesting; whenever I had the upgrade disk loaded earlier and the upgrade wizard prompted me to select the make and model number of my pc there were no available downloads available for the M3202. And I'm quite certain whenever I first upgraded this pc there was an M3202 download available.


I'll try it your way in the morning, but if that don't work I think I should run out and grab some DVD's.

I have tried making 1st device CD/DVD and making my 2nd device my harddrive, but the way my BIOS is set up no matter what I do (pressing +/-) whenever I change my 1st device to CD/DVD it always puts my Hard drive last at #3. Not unless there is some other way to toggle them in the correct order.

You are not booting from a network. ( Don`t worry about that )

Thanks, Kathy. Sorry I haven't responded to any of your posts before now. This can be a bit overwhelming. I'm gonna try AddRam's approach in the morning to see if that makes a difference and then I'll most likely go after some DVD's and try it that way.

Using a dvd is the easiest way to install windows, well it will be for you

You`ve got to get your hard drive to 2 on the list, keep trying, just highlite it and move it to 2nd then save the changes and exit out of the bios.

Answer me this.... When you dropped the upgrade disc in, do you get "Press any Key To Boot from DVD" on the screen ?

I just hope you will be able to use the upgrade key with your Windows 7 Upgrade disc to activate windows, I will pm Greg.

Once you have exhausted all means with the USB method with no success, you might want to start a new thread for the DVD method. Whether by Upgrade disc or by downloaded ISO, we will help you anew from there.
