EVGA - What would you pay for PCIE cables?

Anyway now you see where I'm coming from, and it really is hard to find a true 8-pin to 6+2 pin PCIE cable. I actually ordered two ATX 12V CPU cables but found out quickly those don't fit. Besides returning them, I looked like a fool

Noc's don't.

I can't fathom fan vibration causing paint to flake. Really?

The 6 Noctua fans I have do vibrate, not much but it's there.

Well I got these in and they work beautifully for GPU's requiring 8-pin connections while also utilizing the full 6+2 pins from the power supply....



Got them from Frozen CPU - Akasa FLEXA V8 8-Pin PCI-E Single Braid Extension Cable . They're kind of long though 40cm (16 inches).

I'm thinkin' 'tis the other way around. The reason for the split end is not all graphics card use all eight connections; some use only six. It's similar to the ATX PSU cable that goes to the MOBO; most are eight pin that can be split to two four pin connectors to accommodate MOBOS that have only a four pin socket for the CPU power.

Thanks. And that end (split end) goes to the GPU. Remember the GPU can have either 6 or 8 pin connections, so if your GPU just requires a 6-pin, you can just split the pins into a 6+2 and just use the 6 pin part. The extra two pins will just be un-used.

FrozenCPU are very good for stuff, obviously I live in the UK, but I ordered my 780 backplate from them and it was delivered to my door in the UK within 8 Days! I was very impressed to say the least, especially seeing shipping was only $8!

To be honest I would have loved to get black cables from EVGA instead of having to resort to extension cables. But I knew what I was getting when I purchased the PS. Just wished they offered black cables as well instead of those exclusive bright red ones.

Shown is a black NZXT 6-Pin to 6+2Pin VGA Extension Cable connected to typical power supply cable (red). So....

The red side connected to the (modular) power supply will have a 6+2 pin at other end (yellow & black circle).

The black side is a 6+2 pin and is connected to either a 6 or 8-pin GPU. If connected to a 6-pin GPU, the 2 pin connector would just be dangling like that shown in the yellow circle.



The extra 2 pins are simply extra ground cables; Thus the reason most extension cables for the GPU just utilize 6-pins on one end with the 2 extra ground pins on the other end sharing a common ground at the 6-pin side as shown in the example above with the black NXZT extension cable.

Some power supplies utilize a true 8 pin power configuration for those GPU's requiring 8 pins, especially as GPU's become more and more powerful. You have to figure there's a reason a GPU was designed with 8 pins in mind instead of 6.

Yep, it takes two 8-pin connectors. And, as I said before, if Sapphire wanted 6 pin connections, they would have made it 6-pin. Am I being overly "cautious", perhaps.

You wanted to fix the "dangler" you had in the yellow circle.

Not necessarily dangling, but un-used pins coming from the PS to the GPU

No, I think a GPU needs all the power connections it's designed for. Under power can cause damage like having too much.

Yes. For cards requiring only six pins, the other two (split) are just left dangling since they're not used. For cards requiring 8-pin connections, those two extra pins would be used.

Since my card requires 8-pin connections, and I didn't want red cables, I went with a true 8-pin extension so no pins would be dangling at either end

BTW those are the same cables that came with my PS as well. I got six of those red cables in all. Two like the ones you show, and four like the ones shown here.

Thanks. Yeah I thought that was a nice touch. BTW those particular green cables are just going to my hot swap bays. Wanted something to distinguish them from the others
