Solved Can I send files from a computer to a laptop?

Without absolutely ANY programs. I'd like to send some files.... over a 100gb to a laptop that's um... let's say in another street. Do you think that'd work somehow with Windows 7? Any possible way?

I dont believe you can do it without any programs per say. Windows should have built in accessories, etc. that you can use to transfer them; but really the best way to do that is via a card reader(like a micro sd card or something similar


Edit let me correct here there is no way to transfer large files without a network connection.

Another street? Do you mean another network?

Nope there is no way to move that many files especially if you aren't even in the same network, not even with another program.

Without being on the same network, you need to transfer the data over internet, which is a much more challenging thing than if you were on the same LAN. In the latter case, it's just a matter of sharing a folder and copying.

A more interesting thing is, why is so important to restrict yourself to Win7 built-in things?

From mind, without being on LAN, but being geographically close, a portable HD is by far the easiest, as well as pendrives and the like. If the network must be used, then uploading to a sharing site, then downloading is probably the easiest, without practically any setup on your part.
Of course, copying 100GB worth of data over internet is going to take a looooong time, no matter which method you choose.

Why not? It's not impossible at all, in fact, it's done daily by millions of people routinely. Once you settle with a method, if you're able to transfer a 15KB file, sending 100GB is perfectly possible, just will take a lot more time, and maybe request slicing the data in smaller parts.

My method is to upload to a file host and send the link to the other party. Most hosts have a file size limit of 150MB-250MB, so it would be best to add several files to an archive (zipped file) and upload separately.

With regards to the OPs initial question which is to not use any program's but windows file sharing... No, not possible.

Use of FTP or another file transfer protocol absolutely can be done however the bottleneck is going to be upload speeds and most ISPs will throttle them to try and prevent you providing services for other people.

Your best bet is to upload it to a cloud storage provider and then download from the client end.

100GB upload is gonna take some time. I've got what is considered good speeds in the UK, and I get 18Mbps upload max. That's about 8GB/hour. 100GB upload would take me around 12 - 24 hours. If the OP really means 'in the next street', I'd say portable hard drive and sneakernet.

Like I don't already know it would take a ridiculous amount of time through any type of file server. That is simply NOT a viable method for moving 100 GB of files.

Nope it's simply not possible, not reasonable and not in an acceptable amount of time, not even close. You are dead wrong Alejondo.

It would be faster to load the files onto a USB drive then drive down the street and deliver the payload.
