I am not a pro with AMD processors, but I do not that this is an actually pretty out of date motherboard, so you should buy a newer motherboard if you have the money to if you do not have the cpu yet.

My entire build is old, so if I had to buy a new motherboard I'd have to buy an entire set of PC components.

It supports up to the Phenom II x4 965 as well as up to the x6 1090T,

Motherboards - M3A78-CM - ASUS

About the only thing you might have to do is update the bios the the latest version if you don't have it.
