Solved Dell factory restore failed for Windows 7 home premium

I backed up my files ON the computer and ran the built in system recovery. On reboot, it shows a DOS screen listing media drivers then goes to boot windows and shows ANOTHER dos screen rapidly scrolling lines. I can read "failure" but cannot tell for what. It says the system needs to reboot, but then goes thru the same loop. I can F8 and have run every possible item there (repair start up files, etc), but cannot get windows to start, even in safe mode. My files are partitioned on the computer, so I don't want to just wipe it. Anyone have any suggestions?

wow I think my brain just melted. Thanks, I will try. I dont think its a virus issue tho, that wasn't why I ran the recovery. I ran recovery because I had a crash installing windows updates and when I tried to recover to an earlier date, that REALLY screwed things up. Such as BACK UP/RECOVER command no longer worked, etc.

In addition to that; I hope you backed up your files because at this point it looks like a clean install of windows is the only option left; especially if you have already tried a start-up repair, etc.

Before you do anything like a clean install I'd make sure you have saved any important data from your HDD (eg. documents, photos....). Here is one way to do that using "Puppy linux":
