I had a pre installed window but its activation key is different from the one on the sticker at the bottom of my laptop.
Actually , I have a toshiba laptop , which brought me to this forum some months back, After solving the problem , I never used it again but now I am looking to install win7 in it again , The problem came after I confirmed the activation key before downloading the .iso. The problem here is that The sticker on the bottom has not got the complete key , only 1st 12 letters are visible (2 of which are doubtful too) . Some months back , While I was having a harddisk issue , I was suggested to get the activation key through a software Jellybean I think, that key is still with me . Now when I match both are different , entirely different. My question is , WHY ?
and will this key from jellybean will work ?
Also there is an product id in the text file , will it be of any help ?

I also have the extracted cert file which I read somewhere was helpful too and I extracted it as a backup for the key.

I am a newbie so detailed answers will be appreciated

The key you found with Jellybean is a key that the manufacturer uses to install the operating system at the factory.

You must use the key on the case if you intend to reinstall using generic media.

The best bet is to reinstall using the recovery partition or the recovery disk you made when you first got the computer.

You could also contact Toshiba to get recovery disks if you did not create them..

The recovery disk is corrupted as It was created when I had the hdd problem earlier , Toshiba support has no support centers in my country, they already said sorry , Nor there is any place to get a legit window disk , Cracked are available for as low as 30cents but I want the legit one . Is there any way to buy a KEY from microsoft or any where else ? Or should I use the cert method to patch in the old extracted key ? its kind of messy that is why I had avoided it for now .

Also , The key from jellybean is 25 characters too , Wont it work ? is there any way to check if the key is going to work or not before attempting the reinstall ? some kind of online validation or anything

Computers that come pre-installed with Windows from large manufacturers usually come with two Product Keys.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.

You will need to use the Manufacturer's Recovery media- which contains their Key and the required licenses - to reinstall WIndows, if the COA sticker is not readable.

So the key I got by jelly bean is which one ?
OEM SLP ??

Almost certainly, unless you had had reason to change it to the one on the sticker.
Since it's a Toshiba, and presumably Home Premium, it was probably 6B88K-KCCWY-4F8HK-M4P73-W8DQG
All OEM_SLP Keys are blocked by MS from activation, before release.

That'd fit the OEM_SLP Key for a Tosh - giving the Product ID of XXXXX-OEM-8992752-50015
(the first block varies according to the spec of the machine).

See if you can get Tosh to part with a set of Recovery media, if you never created them, and/or deleted the Recovery partition.

Thanks for helping , Toshiba provided me the key after tons of verification.

I have to admit to surprise at that - they don't usually do that(at least if the machine isn't under warranty).

Well done, and good luck!
