Solved Im locked out of Windows 7 / password screen

You'll need to plug in a USB flash stick or external HD. Then refresh the screen, if necessary rebooting into it to get the device to show for copying.

Im copying the user file to my 3 TB ext hard drive. Ill report back when it has been copied

Ive created a folder named - Computer - on the external hard drive and it will be a slow process but I can copy the files to the ext hd.

When Ive done backing up, I can then do a clean re install of Windows


My only question is why is Windows on the e drive? Shouldnt it be on the c drive?

The letters can be different in boot mode.

Read over the steps for doing a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 because this is your chance to get the one great install of a lifetime, then save it as a backup image so you never have to do it again!

You will get and keep a perfect install to the exact extent which you stick with those steps, tools and methods.

I copied one folder and the mouse was fine. Then I selected another folder to copy, but the mouse would not select anything so I had to reboot the computer. Thats a time waster because when it gets to the red arrow, it takes 10 minutes to scan or do whatever it is doing.

Is there any way to fix the mouse problem? Refreshing the screen doesnt help

Never mind. I copied the desktop folder where my other folders are located

My files are backed up and now Im setting the computer back to factory settings via HP recovery manager

I could get to windows/system32 in DOS but I didnt know how to get to the c prompt. Ive always hated DOS so I'm using recovery manager rather than through command prompt

Did it offer Minimal Recovery? That's the only Factory Recovery I'd accept on an HP which has the worst load of bloatware in the industry.

I asked if you did a Minimal Recovery? Otherwise you have the HP Factory install which is the worst install of Win7 one can have, larded with bloatware and duplicate utilities which interfere with better versions built into WIn7.

If you did not do a Minimal Recovery I would http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164.

If not then I'd at least Clean Up Factory Bloatware
