Wiping Out Everything on Dell XPS 8100 Desktop

I just told you three times to select the partition you just made for install and click Next.

Why am I having to type this out three times in my last three posts? Do you have some problem that you can't follow the most clearly stated instructions that are repeated over and over?

I cant get back to the previous one where it shows


Disk 0 Partition 1: windows 7 and it only shows 465.8gb total size and freespace....

I already clicked advanced before you typed that.


Right now i click next and i get that same message


Setup was unable to create a new system partition. Does that mean me clicking the ADVANCED right before this mess everything up for me?

No those tools are just there, they don't do anything unless you use them and you were not told to use them.

First reboot and try it again selecting that same partition partition to click Next. See if it works this time.

If not unplug the flash stick, click the Red X in top corner of install window, then click Install Now again. You will get a new error message, click OK and plug in the stick to continue install.

If not reboot the PC and tap the F12 key again, Enter Setup, look for a setting on one of the BIOS' tabs for SATA controlller or SATA mode. What is it set to?

While in BIOS setup look for settings for UEFI, CSM or Legacy Mode. Report back if you find them.

Rebooting and then clicking next doesn't work. I see the drive options (advanced). However the thing is its still


Disk 0 partitition 1: windows 7 465.8gb 465.7gb system


as oppose to earlier when it was only 465.8gb and it didn't have the word system on it



Its in advanced chipset settings


SATA MODE {RAID}

Change SATA setting to AHCI. Then make sure you save that setting and exit, reboot into flash stick via F12 to try install again. Ignore the Advanced settings and just select the partition you made and click Next.

Report back any failure along with exact error message without doing anything else.

The usb flash drive im using is a 3.0. Is that a problem? I know the usb flash slot in my dell xps is pretty old so it must be 2.0. I recall reading something about 2.0 but the thing is my other usb flash drive only has 4gb and thus its full so i had bought this one thats 16gb so i could use it.


I assume this isn't the reason that this could be a problem right? That the flash drive im using is a datatraveler 3.0 usb?

There are no USB3 drivers in the Win7 installer so it could be the problem although it should work as a USB2 device too. This is why it's prominently mentioned in both Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums

Do you have a DVD to burn from the ISO using http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31541-windows-7-usb-dvd-download-tool.html?filter?

Try again with the ATA setting anyway.

I threw all my old cd/dvds out a long time ago. I do have kingston 2.0 flash drive thats 4gb but i could just delete everything there and put the iso file in it then see if it works? The thing was i bought this specific flash drive b/c it was 16gb and b/c i figure that way, i could have everything on it such as my files and also the windows 7 iso file.

A required CD DVD drive device driver is missing. IF you have driver floppy disk, cd, dvd or usb flash drive, insert it now.


Note if the windows instatllation medis is in cd/dvd drive, u can safely remove it for this step

It then shows no device drivers were found. Make sure installation media contains correct drivers then click okay. I click okay. Then click rescan... nothing...

I downloaded on a site. The file is windows 7 home premium 64 bit and its 3.1gb

Is there anything else for me to check?


LIke sata 1 , sata 2 drive etc?
