If all else fails, what always works is to Mark Partition Active the Win7 or it's 100 mb System Reserved partition Active then run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html.

You can then install EasyBCD to add Linus to a Windows Dual Boot menu as suggested in http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/83923-where-install-ubuntu-my-system.html#post733626

How do you do that in Ubuntu? Your link illustrates how to Mark Partition Active in Windows 7 only...

The links also show how these operations are done from the Win7 disk http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html Command line which applies in this case.

I would not delete the Dell Utility partition as long as Diagnostics boot via F12 as these are valuable and often will still boot to run after reinstall.

Ok, i got the Windows 7 installation disc and marked the 101 MB disk partition as active like you suggested from this link http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html . I restarted the computer and it shows the GRUB rescue mode now...it says
Code:
 Error: Unknown filesystem
Entering rescue mode...
grub rescue>
upon typing ls I got
(hd0) (hd0,msdos4) (hd0, mdos3) (hd0, msdos2) (hd0, msdos1)

I can no longer even log in to Ubuntu anymore. I'm starting to worry...PLEASE HELP!! :(

Tip
Sometimes it may take running a startup repair (3) separate times with restarting the computer after each time before it fully fixes the startup issue.

Windows 7 should boot succesfully afterwards. Post results. Afterwards I give you instructions how to add linux to win7 bootmenu

-So, I guess I should run Startup Repair three times now??

You must NOT type the commands in DISKPART but in a fresh command prompt. For now.... make the volume active and clear the hidden flag. Answer the other threads. these 6 commands are not relevant anymore

Yes, I did all that...it is type 7 and no longer hidden. I ran "list volume" again under DISKPART and now it says Volume 2 i.e. DELLUTILITY is hidden, and VOlume 1 is no longer hidden; everything else is same...Is it ok to run Startup Repair now??

Look at your previous posts.... DELLUTILY wasn't hidden at all!! But i think that was a typing error. I think is was DELLUTILY that was hidden all the time(?)

Anyway....all is fine now. C is ACTIVE? IF so.... perform a startup repair 3 times with reboots in between and post results.
system boots fine from internal disk afterwards?

oh man! now in the system recovery options I can see Windows 7 listed under Operating system which wasn't there previously and when I select it and click next, it says "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows." What is this new issue now? :(
