Shoot, you should get the 840 Pro too. When they first came out I bought 2 of them, at different times. As I recall, I paid around $220-$230 each for them. Those are great prices.

I bought an 850 Pro 256 GB last week for $170 and it just dropped also.

Don't know as its my first one and have not installed it yet. It's newer technology and updated controller so it may be a little faster in benchmarks but I am sure you can't notice the difference. Samsung thinks the technology is better with a 10 year warranty.

That's what I think. I don't think it can be much faster. The sata III bus is saturated right now. In practical terms, it can't go any faster. That's why everyone is looking to the pcie express and m.2 standard, they run off of pcie lanes, which are much faster and a direct shot to the CPU. But, I'm pretty sure sata III can't get any faster than it has been for a while, but the 10 year warranty only means Samsung believes in their quality, which is good enough for me.

Samsung is innovating with a new NAND tecnology: chip stacking. The cells are literally stacked on top of each other for 2 or 4 layers, with circuit connectivity on the X, Y, and Z axis. They call this 3D or V-chip.

They took this route because the "shrinking the die" improvements have pretty much hit a dead end. Manufacturers can't squeeze much more performance out of the "10nm class" chips (19nm actually) without resorting to firmware tricks and magic.

The 850 Pro uses the much older 40nm chip technology, which while slower, is much more reliable and straight-forward in functioning. The speed gain claimed is supposed to come from the 3D design.
We will see once folks start posting results.

Not to take this thread way off topic, but I have only seen one TV in my career that apparently actually burst into flames. Until that TV, I had only heard of sets doing this after a lightning strike. TV's may die and emit some smoke (usually as a resistor or device overheats due to a dead short), but no flames. A Guy

Bill is it true that if you try to work in an unplugged TV you can fry yourself if you touch certain capacitors? Which?

The old CRT TV tubes could knock you on your backside if you touched the flyback lead on the picture tube without discharging it first (don't ask how I know ). The tube acted like a large capacitor.

Let's just say that one must discharge to ground the potential stored in an old TV picture tube before trying to remove the flyback lead from the side to avoid getting a nasty zap. Those things can hold that charge for days.

Sure, there is a lot of energy stored in those capacitators. It's best to ground yourself.
