[Urgent] Computer not working normally please help

Greg just some things I noticed.

John12 started the thread with 2 X GTX 260 cards.
Then went to no card.
Then went to GTX 760 which requires at a minimum 500W power supply with two
6 pin connectors.
I have not seen any information on John 12's power supply.

Back to watching.

I think the OP SF specs are not for a new PC that is having these issues ...
If Greg's TV and driver magic doesn't fix it, i think we should get specs for the new PC.

Guys I can't believe my eyes but Greg came on team viewer and got things sorted for me. There were a few drivers that had to be installed and he helped me with that. We installed and updated more drivers from a disk that I received from the computer manufacturer. As soon as we updated the driver I was able to download + install Microsoft Essential and actually run the installer without any error. Normally it would give me the file is corrupt error but this time the installer went through just fine. After that we saw that Google chrome was not rendering pages correctly. That was a little weird and I had a second wifi usb so we decided to switch it out to check if that was an issue. As soon as I switched it, speed went up quite a bit and pages were loading a lot better. I'm now able to install windows update without any fail and I don't see any distorted image. Really big thanks to Greg for all his help, the time he put into come into team viewer to help me when he didn't need to. Thank you DavidE as well for all the help and putting up with me sorry I was really nervous yesterday and all I had in my mind was get this fixed.

Everything is loading well, no image problem as I'm browsing many pages that I had image distortion yesterday. Thank you guys again.

Greg told me to follow up with you guys because you're the best around here with hardware. And I really want to do that because I actually think my power supply might be too weak for this computer. How do I get the information that you guys need to help me look into this?

It was a privilege to work with John who is a real whiz kid and polite as can be. After getting residual Updates installed with improvements after every reboot, and loading many drivers from his Builder's 2013 driver disk, the Display cleared up and things started pointing to the wireless adapter which he switched out boosting the speed and ending download fails.

From there I watched in amazement as he worked in the Nvidia Control Panel (there is a slightly newer Gaming driver), downloading, Speed Testing, etc. I've rarely seen anyone work so fast and efficiently. John would be a great asset here for helping others as he gets sorted. His parents should be proud of their quality investment in someone so smart it could take him anywhere he'd like to go.

Great work Greg and great explanation John of how you got all this fixed.

If the builder didn't give detailed info on what PSU they installed in your PC,
the only way i know to get info on a power supply is to open the case and physically look for the make and model.
There should be some label on the PSU, but it's not always viewable depending on where it is and how the PSU is installed.

If you can't see the label, can you ask the builder if they can tell you what PSU is in the PC ?

Don't worry about it, it can be confusing for folks that have multiple PCs...
SF specs don't really support displaying info for multiple PCs.

You can be 100% positive that builders of such computers use the low quality and wattage power supply they can get away with. One must look on the tag/sticker on the power supply for brand name and specs.
Their is no program you can install that will give you this information.

If you look at the paper work that came with the computer you will probable find very little about the power supply.

I agree and believe this is true of all the "Big Name" off the shelf mass produced PCs.
I'm not sure about Custom Builders, but it certainly could be the same.

With some builders you might be able to choose an optional/better PSU.

With a custom-built (or pre-built) the PSU could be mounted in the top or bottom, and, front or back of the case.

Depending on the computer case and the PSU, the PSU label might not be visible without some type of "dis-assembly".

I've been looking at components for a new build, so i'm interested in PSU placement for cooling, wiring, accessibility, case size, PSU size, etc.
This thread made me realize the PSU sticker might not be visible after the PC is built, but i wouldn't care, i'll know what PSU i put in.

Out of curiosity i'd like to know if there is a reputable custom builder that does give such detailed info as the PSU make and model...
In this case, does the custom builder of the OP's new PC have and give that info ?

I really don't know of what specs a builder has to give. I would think that it varies according to the location of the builder and the customers. Different places around the world would probably have different laws and regulations.

What I have noticed wondering around the internet is that most people that buy a custom built computer don't know to ask about power supplies other than the wattage. Such as brand name, how many rails, how many amps on the 3.3, 5.0 or 12V rails.
It's not really all the builders fault because the customer should of done their homework before buying. It all comes down to doing your homework before you spend your money.

A good example in my opinion would be just looking at other members
My System Specs. Most don't even list the power supply they have.
Power supplies don't get any respect. Even tho it is the heart of the system.
Everything in a computer that gets power and a proper ground comes from the power supply. So a proper quality power supply should be at the top of every building list of components.
If one goes to a builder they get many choices of things like motherboard, cpu, video card; well you should look and demand that you get choices on power supplies. If one has to demand the power supply you want because you have done your homework and know which one is best for you.

If one doesn't want to build their own system look for a local builder you can talk to and together you can decide what you want and need for the budget you have to work with. But always spend the time and do your homework.
