New February 2015 Updates for Windows Available

Today, as part of Update Tuesday, we released nine security bulletins – three rated Critical and six rated Important in severity, to address 56 unique Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Server software.

We encourage you to apply all of these updates. For more information about this month’s security updates, including the detailed view of the Exploitability Index (XI) broken down by each CVE, visit the Microsoft Bulletin Summary webpage. If you are not familiar with how we calculate the XI, a full description can be found here.

We re-released one Security Bulletin:

• MS14-083 Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Excel Could Allow Remote Code Execution

One new Security Advisory was released:

• Update for Windows Command Line Auditing (3004375).

One Security Advisory was revised:

• Vulnerability in SSL 3.0 Could Allow Information Disclosure (3009008).

Just a FYI (KB3001652) Update to Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office runtime seems to be stuck doing nothing for 30 mins on 3 of my machines. May want to skip that update and install it separately.

I just "Hard" rebooted twice because of this Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office runtime one.... and have to update one by one the eleven all the others in proposed WU.

It had left two locked installer folders (as attached pic). Do not know why this one was on proposal, i do not run any of the Office products.

I will try to install it again but with the stand-alone installer from kb article link.

Same thing on my computer. (KB3001652) failed and the computer had to be hard rebooted as well. I don't plan to retry this update.

Some having issues and looks some does not.

On the one Windows 7 machine the update worked on I got a standalone installer and had to agree, press next and then exit. The problem is we can't press next if we are never shown the installer Window and agreement. Therefore it sits and does nothing.

Good point!

Been a while i haven't installed a stand-alone Visual C++ redistributable package and it caught me on CLUF to agree, then exited.

installed latest update today (don't know what KB number, though). Installed OK, but afterwards my MS Visio will not save file as PDF anymore!!!!

I tried restore system setting to before update, and got a "failed to restore" error message

To possibly repair Visio's PDF, try going to Control Panel, then Programs and Features, then right-click on Microsoft Office or if it shows as Visio in the program list then right-click on that. From the menu, select Change (not Uninstall) then in the dialog box that comes up select Repair, then click Continue. Hope this helps.


If you need further assistance on Visio and PDF open a new thread as I don't wish to hijack this thread.

It is I suspect unrelated. I tried and saved to PDF an engineering schematic on 3 different machines. Just bad luck, try the repair function suggested by Wordsworth.

ok that was not fun. Installed the Kb 3001652 on Windows 8.1- (4 machines )no problem (btw you will not see this if you do not have ms office installed), now installed it all by itself. I do all updates in small bunches just in case but this one all by itself, well it seemed to install fine, asked for a reboot then the fun began. Windows 7 Pro sp1 came to login screen, put in my info and it opened but all the icons were blank and worse I could do nothing! Completely locked up, Control Alt Delete 2x nada!, so I shut it down and of course saw the famous black screen- well I picked Safe Mode, booted into that fine, I was going to uninstall it but I could not find it with all the other ms updates, so I prayed and rebooted in reg mode. She went in fine, so far all is well but I have 40 machines of clients to update remotely. This is my main business machine. It seemed to go fine on another test windows 7 pro one too, had same problem though. But I did it on another test Windows 7 Pro I have , It failed in the middle and it was so bad I had to do a system restore to get windows back, otherwise I would have had to reformat it, removing the update did NOTHING.
This is going to be hidden on all Windows 7 Pro machines until Microsoft figures this out.

No it is not only Windows 7, one of my machines was Windows 8.1 and it just kept trying to install the update until about 3 hours later it finally got done.
