*Typing from my phone as I cannot use my computer*

It all started yesterday when my laptop was suddenly shut down because the battery ran out.

When I started it back up again I got the Bad Pool Header BSOD. I tried to use the system repair, but it had no effect. I also tried CHKDSK /f :C,which found no errors, and Windows Memory Diagnostics which stated that everything was fine. I also tried to do a system restore to 2 days ago, but it did not help.

I was able to go into Safe Mode with internet which I did. While there I installed CCleaner as I got that recommended to me, and I cleaned files and registry.
This did not help, and suddenly I was no longer able to go into Safe Mode anymore :s The computer stops loading the Safe Mode at the "avgidsha.sys". I also can no longer do system restores as CCleaner seems to have removed the files necessary? >_<

I do not know what to do anymore and I am getting desperate. I have a lot of important files on the harddrive, such as my CV and pictures and movies of my puppy and other things I have photographed. Things that are very dear to me :/

Is there anyone who is able to either help me to fix the BSOD, or at least somehow tell me how/if I can save my files on to an external harddrive.

As I only have access to my phone and BIOS + Advanced Boot Options(including command prompt) I don't think that I can supply any other data than mobile photos of the computer screen? :/

I am incredibly grateful for any help that you can offer!

The first thing to do is to try and recover your files off the hard disk. You can do that very easily by booting from a Linux distribution installed to a USB thumb drive. It sounds complicated, but its not. Just follow this tutorial specifically written for these types of scenarios:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/256518-peppermint-live-cd-dvd-usb-create-emergency-backup.html

Do not attempt any other fixes until you have been able to recover your photo's, CV, etc. etc.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I did as the tutorial said and now have a bootable peppermint5 on a USB. However, once I booted it and selected live mode it started to start up, but eventually got stuck at 100% in the Starting up.." window :(

*Edit*
I restarted it and tried again. My files are currently copying to one of my external drives! Fingers crossed it works!
I need to go afk for a few hours, but I will make a post here once I know that my files are saftly back-uped.

I have now moved all my important files on to external harddrives. Yes.. plural... I made 2 back ups just in case. I never want to feel the horror of loosing all these important memories ever again :P
Thank you so much! You really saved my sanity!

Now on to the matter of fixing my computer. Any ideas for what I could do or what causes the issue? Could it be drivers? I think that there may have been a windows update ready to be installed when the shut down happened...

Is there any additional information that I can provide?

Tried to boot it in safe mode, but it freezes at "avgidsha.sys".

Could I go into peppermint and try to rename all the avg*.sys drivers to avg*.bkp instead?
Or are they not what is causing the issue even if the start up hangs there?

I tried it and it actually worked!!
The computer did not get a bsod on start up and itinstead it ran a chkdks of C which I had queued earlier.

It completed sucessfully and I have now been able to enter the computer normally!!

I am very scared of getting the problem back if I shut it down.

I assume I got the BSOD because of a corruption in the AVG files.. as renaming them fixed it. Should I uninstall and reinstall AVG.. or hope that it has now downloaded proper working drivers?
