Microsoft silently preparing your PC for Win 10

KB2952664 just showed up again this morning. (I didn't install it yet.) Isn't this version 9 or 10? It's been issued 7-8 times since April of last year. Each one is supposed to be a fix for the previous release so I've read but how does the same KB keep showing up? Who is doing the quality control at MS? Have they farmed that to some off-shore company?

Makes me think MS may intentionally tank Windows 7 or make it so dysfunctional, you HAVE TO update to 10.

I was playing around with my W7 Network Manager (disabled and enabled my NIC) and I had Process Explorer open.
When I enabled my NIC, Process Explorer showed that "GWX.exe" started "talking" via my Network.

All KB3035583 did for me is start filling my event log with errors.

Probably yes, if you agree to it as the user will be getting free for a certain duration before they ask you to pay for the upgrade later.

Just installed a Win 7 Home Premium on a new HDD due to some auto shutdown problem.

W10 hasn't been released yet. The updates are to prep systems and to test hardware prior to the actual offering.

It looks like a cross between Win 7 and Win 8.x. Why not just stick with Win 7? It's supposed to be supported until 1/14/2020.

Do you have a link showing if this update is installed it will AUTO update to Win 10 ?

Or, does having this update installed allow you to be notified of a possible/free update to W 10 ?
Or, does it check if a PC is able to run Win 10 ?

Perhaps my evaluation is skewed by VBox limitations and an early release but I worked with 10 for a few days and determined it is much like 8.1 with some menu changes. I don't recall exact details because 10 simply didn't appeal to me and forgot most it; However, it's like some of the menus didn't make sense. They'll include items that have nothing to do with the other items. Almost as though MS worked on one menu at a time and drew items out of box and stuck them there. It seems hard to navigate for more detail options and features. And I was especially annoyed at having to sign in every time it came up. So much so, I forgot my password. Just as well, I'm done with it.

They can't legally do that in the U.S. even though they would love to. They also need to be-careful with the updates on how they do the notifications for windows 10, it could possibly violate some laws if there is no way to disable the notification if the update is installed.

I paid for windows 7 computer, that what I wanted. I didn't pay for a windows 10 computer. I don't want one.

I knew that but I am not brave enough to say it.

If Microsoft stopped me from using windows 7 operating system, I might (Can't say I would) take them to small claims court for the cost of my computer plus court cost. Even though I use Linux as well, there are windows programs (Some Microsoft, some third party) I want to keep using. Plus as I said above, I bought a windows 7 computer not a windows 10 computer. Very simple way not to have windows 10, don't agree to the windows 10 EULA.

What I would most likely do,
Is disable windows update and never update or wait a year when windows 10 is no longer free. Those programs I use, work off-line. So, I could use my Linux system for browsing.

Well these so called "Recommended" updates Microsoft puts out there usually cause more problems than they are supposed to do

As been posted recommended updates often show up in the Important category because of windows update settings,
If not changed
Carwiz post a great example of that and many others in the past have also proven Recommended updates can be quite destructive to a system
A few font updates that were also recommended caused a lot of stress for some users without system images to fall back on.

So as far as auto updating to win-10 :/
All depends on update settings I'm sure a popup will want someone to confirm much like Malicious software removal tool but none the less these updates by default download first then ask for permission later to install

I don't know about that. What about Vista and Win 8.0? Nadella has already said some stupid things (saying something is just a step behind doing something), such as telling women they don't need to ask for a raise, just trust the system. He's as bad as Ballsmore (yes, I know how Ballmer spells it), just not as "theatrical".

They could force an windows 10 to be download but couldn't be installed without having the person agree to the EULA. If the person doesn't agree to the EULA it won't install.
