Need to replace SATA cable for my laptop

It's come to my attention that something's wrong with either my SATA cable or the SATA port on the motherboard of my laptop. I thought i'd try replacing my SATA cable first before i start looking to replace the motherboard as it'll be less hassle/cost. I was hoping to get some advice on how to go about it (Whether replacing a SATA cable on a laptop is the same process as it is on a desktop computer), and where i might be able to find one.

Thank you!

Well I thought so..the replies i got on another thread suggested that i should "Try a new SATA cable". I was advised that either SATA controller on my motherboard or the cable leading from the HD to the motherboard was faulty. Maybe i've used the wrong word?

Most hard drives in a laptop slide/push into it`s connectors, no cables.

Ah, ive got a sata cable then. Is the only way to do it is take it to a store and let them do the repairs for me?

Take the back plate off that covers the hard drive and have a look.

I seriously doubt it uses a sata cable.

What exactly, is wrong with the laptop ?

It uses a SATA Port but doesn't require a SATA Cable to connect storage devices in laptops, have that SATA Port checked in the service center or look for it for yourself (You might need a flash light just in case.).

@SocietyMisfit that's the one! Thanks for the link.

I recently had to replace my old hard drive due to failure. I put in a new hard drive, reinstalled windows and got a BSOD a few days later. In the past, i would get frequent errors notifying me about a bad cable connection with my drive, and it wouldnt be detected in the boot manager or BIOS. Though, i didn't think much of it as the drive was failing by that point.

Unfortunately, I'm getting the same errors with the new hard drive as well. I posted my DM logs of after the crash in the BSOD help thread and was told that the error was because of a bad connection between the SATA cable and either the hard drive or SATA port on the motherboard.

This is the link to the thread for anyone interested: http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-hel...einstalling-drivers-win-7-new-hard-drive.html
