Windows 10 installation notification and reservation on Windows 7?

Okay, so, let me start off by saying I don't want to switch to Windows 10, I just want to stick to Windows 7.

I saw a little icon on my task bar saying "Get Windows 10". I clicked it, curious, then saw "Get Windows 10" and "Reserve your copy", thinking that Reserve would be a means of just reserving it and I could have an option later. If it was anything that would force itself on, I could confirm/decline it at the very least.

Instead, I get a little box saying that it would be installed when ready - no confirmations, no information put in, nothing, just tells me that it'll be ready for install when Windows 10 launches.

Does this mean that I'm going to be forced into Windows 10? That when Windows 10 becomes available, it's just going to auto-install without my say at all? Is there a way to cancel it completely? WTF?

Just ignore the notices and the reservation and you won't be forced into anything. If you don't like the notification, go back and uninstall the relevant Windows Updates that caused you to get the notification in the first place.

If you are completely asleep at the switch and at some future date foolishly allow a Windows Update that would in fact update you to Windows 10, you would still have to accept the EULA before the update would ever complete anyway.

Of course, you could always be foolish enough to do that too. I expect millions will do exactly that and regret it.

As long as it's not just going to randomly install itself, I'm fine. I was just worried about a forced installation of Windows 10, is all. It didn't really explain itself very clearly.

I usually check for confirmations and read things through as they come up, this just took me by surprise when I clicked it and it brought up the thing I screenshotted above.

As stated, it will download when released but will ask you when to install. If you want, that can be never.

You can use the ESDtoISO tool at that point to create an ISO file that you can then use to burn a DVD or create a flash drive you can install with at a later time.

If you don`t want Windows 10, why would you foolishly click on Get Windows 10 and Reserve your copy ?

Hi all.
I reserved my copy cause I want to try it.
I have 2 physical drives, a C:\ drive with my windows 7 and i have a D:\ storage drive.
I would like to try Win 10 without affecting AT ALL my beloved win 7.

• Shall i install Win 10 in the D:\ drive?
• By the way some people is already trying it, are they using the Windows 10 Insider Preview going here?, is it ok to use it or shall i wait until my reserved copy?

You could put the Insider Preview on a separate partition on the D drive if you absolutely can't wait for the official release in about 7 weeks.

Or you could use a virtual machine.

If those sound a little too complex, I'd just wait. The Insider Preview is not a finished product yet anyway.
