Hi there,
I just re-installed my Windows 7, and I noticed that shutting the laptop down into Hibernate (which I actively have been using for the last 3 years orso) suddenly takes more then 3 minutes.
I have installed all the previous drivers and only a handful of the previous programs. I also have re-installed my laptop several times in the last years (because I like a clean computer
).
I use Boostspeed 8.0 to clean the laptop and it's Tweak Manager to improve the performance of Windows 7.
This has always helped me in the past to make Windows perform even better then normal.
I set the virtual memory file to 0 in the registry, turned of "using your harddrive as a bit of RAM", turned off all the graphic effects (like aero and such) and have very selectively turned off a few services and set other to manual.
I emptied the line-up at startup in msconfig, set the "choose which OS to boot up" to 1 sec.
I also read a few of Blinks topic on how to improve startup and shutdown.
Starting up takes about 20 to 30 seconds. Which is good in my opinion. But turning the laptop off takes a good 3 minutes. Sometimes even 4 minutes.
When I first discovered Hibernate, it only needed 20 seconds to shut down. But after a re-install I probably did something wrong, and it took much longer. I've played with it long enough, time to ask the guru's for some help. So here I am.
I use my laptop mainly to surf the web and to read mail. But every now and then I also intensively use Photoshop, Illustrator, Videostudio and a few programs like this.
I always shut down these "memory-eating" programs before going into Hibernate though.
I think I'm forgetting something somewhere, but I just can't seem to find it.
Hopefully I can figure this out with your help.
My laptop is an Acer Aspire 7740G (the only hardware upgrade is 2x 4GB DDR3 RAM)
My main programs are:
Google Chrome
Live Mail
Google Drive
Photoshop
Illustrator
Corel Videostudio
Windows own file-explorer
Daemon tools
I don't have any games or things like Netflix/Spotify etc.
Cheers, Vinnie.
