Random BSOD Instances

I built this system with the help of a couple of friends a year ago. Since that time, I have had random BSOD with several different reasons cited (Memory Management or Page Fault being most frequent). Sometimes I have multiple BSOD in one day. Then it will be stable for days or even a couple of weeks. I also experience frequent crashes of Chrome (Flash crashes or just pages crashing and needing to e reloaded). I have also noticed that Windows Update fails to show update history (usually) and updates will not install. I have been told that the issue is either my MoBo or RAM but have not been able to narrow it down so I know what to replace. I can find help to complete replacements of hardware - but I don't want to replace something that works and still have the problem problem. I have "tested" RAM and have mixed results - occasionally it shows a bad stick - but in other tests, both sticks test good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.

How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+

Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

You have two 8 GB RAMs running at 1600 MHz, so it will take a long time to complete the 8 passes. Please have patience.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Let us know the result. A camera snap of the Memtest86+ window before exiting the program will be very helpful.

The tests were completed. I began with both sticks in there was clearly a problem. The first pic is with both sticks. The second pic is with only one stick (which didn't fail once in 14 passes). The last pic is with the second stick which immediately failed.

I will order additional RAM (although for my purposes 8 Gb is probably more than sufficient, I plan to have at least 16 Gb of RAM installed for a cushion).

So if I buy two more of these same sticks (which are sold in pairs), can I add them do they have to be installed in pairs?

If my crashes stop, I can assume that it was a RAM issue - but if they continue what is the next step?

Yeah, one of the RAM sticks are definitely failing. I'm certain that you won't get any errors anymore if you replace the RAM. Do note that you must use RAM sticks of the same model and not different models of RAM, that may cause some issues. Good luck.

So it is sure that one stick of RAM is corrupt. You need to dump it! Good job on the test!!

Your RAM sticks are a KIT, a pair of RAM sold as designed to work together. Same part number, that is CMY16GX3M2A2400C11.

You can freely use the good stick only, 8 GB RAM is more than enough.

But if you want to use two RAM sticks, either dump the entire KIT (both the sticks) and get a new KIT; or get a RAM stick that matches the FSB of the existing one.

If the crashes continue, post another zip following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions .
