Can one 'merge' SP files into W-7 install disks, like one can do with XP??

I have a machine that I am "sticking with Windows 7" on and won't encounter having to install hundreds of updates since it's kept up-to-date. I have a couple of Win 7 VMs as well and don't anticipate creating any others so I shouldn't experience the "pain" described in the article. I think many others are in the same category. Only those doing a clean install of Win 7 will be effected.

This is an international site where people can deal with many languages. I myself have no problem with 5 languages. So I don't think links should be restricted to English only.

Since German is your first language, mayhap you could help us out by translating the key points on the site and point out what the links are for? Not all of us are gifted with the ability to deal with more language like you are (I'm not being sarcastic, just jealous ).

If you use Chrome and have the Google Translate extension you get a fair translation to English automatically.

Here is what I did
Before you start download KB3083710 and KB3102810 in advance, and store on a flash drive
Start and complete the install without an internet connection
Immediately after install is complete
Manually install KB3083710 and restart.
Manually install KB3102810 and restart.
Change your windows update settings I used Automatic and Unchecked Give me recommended updates the same....
Restore the Internet connection and Activate windows
Then launch Windows Update search
After about 5-10 minutes you should have plenty of updates to download and install.

Another thing is if you see this update make sure it is not installed with any other updates
It needs to be installed all by it's self
It was not uncheck automatically which caused many others to fail to install

Windows 8 pro upgrade was the bitch
I finally had to do 50 at a time until finished :/
Then finally got to download 8.1 pro which went fast as 7 did

I'm a bit confused ThrashZone as to why this was really necessary.

I'll face this problem eventually since I have an unused retail Windows 7 (Home Premium).
I planned to download then install Important updates only and Not recommended+optional. Is this a bad approach???

No not at all just Important updates is the way to go = excluding Recommended ones of course
Most the issues are because of windows self updating the second it gets internet connection it updates to a bad version of update client and is tough to overcome.

I tried to create a disc using RT7Lite a few years ago.
It was a total bust.
Note:
I didn't use Brink's guide.

Luckily I downloaded a W7+SP1 disc from Digital River (just before it ended).

SP1 wasn't what was being referred to actually it's all the Important updates since sp1

Used it on many installs, both VM and main system. Did a clean install for my brother couple weeks ago and his internet is painfully slow so used that update pack instead. I think he would have been waiting about 3 weeks for all the updates to appear :roflmao:
Never had any issues with that update pack myself. The website is in German but the installer is all in English.

How would you install it exactly on a clean ?

Just an installer EXE file. Run it as you would a normal program, the installer gives you options like "extract the updates but not install". You can also select which updates to exclude. So can skip the Windows 10 updates as long as you know the KB numbers.

You could extract all the updates from the pack, check all the KB numbers with the articles and delete all the recommended/optional then write a batch file to install all the Important updates. I think I have a batch file to install updates but there is no way I'm going through them all :roflmao:
I don't think anybody has made one with just the important updates.
Or just exclude the Windows 10 updates then remove which updates you don't want after the install. Either way, it's going to take a while!

Yep without knowing how the installer sort the updates it would be a chore to go through all of them manually there's about 60 to be excluded

Someone mentioned slipstreaming updates to create a new install disc and RT7Lite was mentioned.

It didn't work for me and if it didn't work a few years ago slipstreaming SP1 and a few updates, I doubt it will work now with 100s of additional updates.

I realise that people want SP2 (I know I do).
Of course if MS ever released SP2 they would probably slip in the GWX updates too.
