April 12th 2016 Security Update Release for Windows

Today we released security updates to provide additional protections against malicious attackers. As a best practice, we encourage customers to apply security updates as soon as they are released.

I was wondering because I am going to install the following updates 14 in total that I received on this coming Friday..Has anybody ran into any issues with them, as of yet?

Also is there any that I should avoid, if any?

I am only installing "Important Updates" now. I received 12 and they all installed ok. Better still sfc /scannow didn't have a problem.

I really don't know if not installing "Recommended updates" will bite me down the track. According MS definitions of Important - Recommended - Optional I hope I'll be ok.

I installed them all, no issues with any of them.

mjf, as long as you have your WU settings correct and check the description of each and every update before you even think of installing it, you will be just fine.

AddRam, they are my update settings as well.

In my "Windows updates available", recommended and optional appear together. Recommended are highlighted when you select the update. I have ~10 recommended updates sitting in the "optional queue".
I'm sure there must be more I have dismissed yet only 10 appear. Do other recommended fall into a black hole after a while never to be recovered or are these the total outstanding recommended updates?

However they appear, always read the descriptions of what Microsoft considers Important, Recommended or Optional. You may not need any of them.

The only ones you should truly be concerned with are security updates, and they too must be analysed 1st.

I accept them outright if stated as important. I'm not prepared to "research" every important update.
If things go south I have a number of system images to revert to. I can go back 6 months+ if needed.

You don`t have to prepare or even research it, Microsoft has done that for us, just highlite the update, then click on more information and the description page pops right up.

I just look at it this way, if we are gonna wait 6 to 8 hours for updates to show up (LOL) what`s another few minutes finding out what each one`s for, I mean there are only multiple updates on Tuesdays anyway, the rest of the week it`s just MSE definitions.

Just my thoughts, everyone has their own system.

An alternative option (assuming you don't want to follow the advice from something like Susan Bradley's Patch Watch at Windows Secrets) is to leave all the updates for a week. If there are any rogue updates that cause problems they will either have been pulled or replaced by then. Research any critical updates before then, but leaving important or recommended ones for a week isn't going to cause any problems.

If you aren't interested in upgrading to Windows 10 you also need to make sure you aren't installing any of the nagware updates, some of which like KB2952664 are constantly being re-offered.

Of course but the information can be vague.
I have installed at least 3 "important" updates in the past few months that have caused system file errors.
So this is why I image before updating even important updates and do an sfc /scannow after. If the sfc fails I revert to the previous image. This has never been a problem until ~ the last 12 months.

I don't do updates any more for weeks, and my PC is working great. This works for me, perhaps not for you, we all have different set ups

I guess it is important for Russians. I gather they had new time zone changes.
