Malwarebytes hung up on "Searching For Updates"

Last night I opened Malwarebytes and I clicked on "Update" but it just kept searching for updates and never resolved (the icon went around and around for over 15 minutes). I couldn't run a scan because it always has to search for updates before it can run.

I uninstalled and reninstalled 3 or 4 times (even using a few old versions) and I ran the Malwarebytes Clean Tool but nothing is working. It works fine on my laptop so I know that it's not their server. All of the other anti-malware on my desktop PC run and update normally.

Any ideas??

The problem is that I can't update to the latest version!

What could be stopping this from updating? I even tried stopping my antivirus software and then running it but no luck...

Hi,
A lot of people here use Avast and mbam free and premium so maybe they can chime in ?
I use Panda free and mbam pro and everything is fine.

Hi:

Your 2 problems may be related, especially if you have any program version earlier than the current build (2.2.1.1043). If you are running a version EARLIER than 2.2.1.1043, I suggest starting here....

First: please check dashboard > settings > update settings > update options and tell us: is the setting for "check for program updates when checking for database updates" enabled (ticked) or disabled (un-ticked)?

  • If it is disabled, then try enabling it and perhaps reboot the computer for good measure. Then try a manual update check. You should get the 2.2.1.1043 program update.

  • If it is enabled already, then something might be wrong or corrupt with your current installation, as version 2.2.1.1043 was released weeks and weeks ago -- you should already have it. In that case, a proper, clean reinstall/upgrade will probably sort it out. To do that, please carefully follow ALL the steps in this pinned topic: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

    • Important: If you have Premium, be sure to have your license info handy before you start -- you will need it to reactivate after reinstall
    • Also: If you have Premium, be sure to open the GUI > My Account > click "disable" before you start the removal/reinstall process
    • Also, whether you have Free or Premium, please be sure to reboot when prompted by the removal tool; it's a good idea to reboot again after the reinstall.
NEXT: If you already have version 2.2.1.1043, please let us know, so we can better assist you.

Please post back with a status update after that. We'll go from there.

Thanks,
MM
