Solved Failing to update?

I had and have the highest respect for you, have assisted me a lot. No offense intended, am ready to pay for all your expertise, just PM your Paypal or Banking details, I'd be glad to.

Installed all 3..... KB3020369, KB3138612 and now this KB3042058, now my W7 is current and no important updates are available, as shown in the screenshot.

My queries were simple that do I need both the 1st 2. (KB3020369, KB3138612 ), which I think I did...

Hi,

Gotta a few questions regarding W7 Pro 32 bit services, on my laptop, with only 4 gigs of memory.

See approx 44 processes, using 37% of physical memory with CPU usage varying from 0-10%.

Changed 2 services to manual i.e Print spooler and media player sharing.... System stable none issues with check for updates etc....now processes have dropped to approx 36 physical memory to 30-32.

What other services can I safely disable to reduce usage of physical memory... Like Offline pages, Portable media, indexing etc..with out compromising stability and general functionality?

Hoping to hear from you.

I've turned off indexing on all my systems (7, 8.1, 10) and it doesn't cause problems for me.
I mostly use File Locator Lite rather than Windows search as it doesn't use indexing, and is easier to use for me.

1. Is turning off Print spooler and media player sharing fine for me. Could I change any other services too?

2. Indexing when turned off on the drive, what is it's linked service?

3. Is File locator Lite an app, care to post a download link?

1 ) I don't know, i don't turn off print spooler, media player sharing, or any other MS services without researching.
I want the print spooler running, i use it.
I don't know if there is a service for media player sharing, i disable what i don't want running in program configuration, such as the Windows Media Player configuration.

I'm on 8.1 right now and the service name is Windows Search

All the win-10 related ones to skip are these

And these are the ones I have not installed for various reasons some are remote desktop and other undecided updates I have just chosen to not install

Thanks for attaching the screen shot for W10 required updates in optional.

Does one really need them being on W7?

Is it fine to install them now, when I have finalized the laptop, with Off and other installed?

Here is a screen shot of windows media player.....

Set the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service startup type to Manual.
If it causes you problems, you should get an error message, and can change it back to auto.
I have mine set to Manual, no problems here, I missed seeing that service

It doesn't cause a problem even if I set to disabled at least on my laptop.

I normally change some auto start services to manual.
That way they should start if and when they need to, depending on what i run, without an error.
I've found it's mostly 3rd party programs that always want to set an auto startup, and change it to auto with a program update.
To find those buggers i periodically search Services, sort by Startup Type, and adjust as i want.

Could locate only 8 of the 10 not to install, as displayed in the attachment.

Should I install all the rest, at this stage or should have installed them before office or doesn't matter?

I go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
That's where i review what services auto start, and change any services with a Startup Type of Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start) to Manual if i don't want that service always running.
I don't change the setting for any of my Security Programs, and RARELY change any of the MS service settings.

In my example below I'm showing how i change a Macrium service from Auto start to Manual, i don't need that service always running.

Unless you want to manually check for Chrome updates and manually install them, i suggest leaving the setting as-is.

I use Pale Moon and have it set to notify me when an update is available.
I manually choose if and when to update, i don't use automatic updates.

What's the difference between a service Manual running vs Manual only. ( Not running)?

When you start a program that needs a service that is set to Manual, it should start the service, and be displayed as Manual Running.
If you don't start the program it will be displayed as Manual (Not running).

You have to re-boot the PC after making these changes, and then all the Manual services should be "Not Running" until you start a program that needs that service.
