recommended 1 TB/ 2 TB hard drives?

hello,

before I do win7 want to get a bigger HD than current. so many choices and reviews so what would win7 forum readers recommend? My current sata HD has vista 64 on it n don't want to upgrade on that. don't know how to run 2 hard drives on one computer so will take that out for the new blank TB drive.

I'm very fond of my 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black drive. It's a great performer and a 5 year warranty to boot.

I'm a little leary of anything bigger than 1TB as it seems that they have higher failure rates or drive write errors.

I have two WD 1TB "green box" drives -- and they work great! Not had any problems with either of them.

Even though they cost less, I have avoided the Seagate drives, especially the 1.5TB models, because I read that they had lots of failures in the early models.

Noticed at my local computer store recently, that Seagate is selling their 1.5TB drives in new boxes. So, don't know if these are actually newer drives (with the failures fixed), or if they've just changed boxes.

i recently (wednesday) got a 1 tb samsung f3 after reading this review.

Results Analysis:

In short the F3 is an awesome hard disk drive, and while an SSD will still give you a bigger boost in performance and response times, the F3 is very much the next best thing and at a fraction of the £/GB. Get One.

it's certainly feels a lot faster than my old hitachi - and it was very reasonably priced too.

oh, and it's simple enough having more than one hard drive installed in your pc - you just need to enter your bios to set which is the main boot drive, or set up a dual-boot system.

yes I have dual boot on one hard drive, tho I need to get rid of the win 7 partition as it is the old version from January 09 and no reason to keep it taking up space on my vista drive (the only drive). guess having 2 drives is not that difficult then. shouldnt be too hard to learn how to save data to and from both drives.

I think 1Tb is the winner they are more stable right now and the price is right too. You would be better off with a pair of 1Tb drives than a single 2Tb anyhow because of the size. If you have tons of stuff and the drive goes your better off only losing half of it with 2Tb of data recovering it if it were lost would not be cool at all.

I think 1Tb would be faster anyhow because there is less space on the drive for things to spread across when they fragment and formatting or scanning is faster also.

+1 PParks1. Caviar Black 1TB is really good.

I dislike all drives besides WD. They simply never ever have failed on me while others have.

I suspect that the Black I posted above is not being used to its full potential speedwise because of the PCI interface it is going through.

got the same HD WD Caviar Black 1TB x2 in RAID 0 performance is awesome never had a problem!!
I wouldn't go 1.5 or 2.0TB not as stable but that's my opinion.

Thanks. Confirms my theory on the PCI card I'm using. I have no other way to attach the drive though, besides my 2 onboard SATA I ports which are already in use anyhow.

That OS drive is crazy! Really cool how it maintains similar performance throughout the whole storage medium.
