Wont boot after BIOS update

So I updated my BIOS. I have an HP 150t and the motherboard died so I bought another one online and it was working fine but I decided to update the BIOS going into HPs website which mightve been a mistake. Now onto the problem: When I update everything was fine except it took about 20 seconds for the monitor to light up and after it did it took a really long time from the POST screen to boot into Windows. But after it did it worked like a charm. Now it still does the same except that it wont boot into Windows anymore and Startup repair has not been able to fix it. Thanks a lot for the help

Hello and welcome eduardomobe so if I am reading this right you power on and the monitor lags? and then nothing?

Now I do think you may have made a bit of a problem by updating thBIOS so early on in the peice - just what made you think it was needed?

Also the media (copy of Windows_ you are using is that an OEM or retail because if it is an OEM and it was used on the old board then that code would have been tied to the old board and cannot be used for installing on a secondary board. It is a different matter with a retail copy because it can used for up approx 3 times before Microsoft will start asking questions BUT it can only be used on one machine at a time regardless.

Having said that I have in the past had boards go bad and have contacted MS to see if I can use the old code on the new board and in general they have been very obliging.

Can I ask you if you can bot into safe mode? I doubt it but am just curious.

When you updated did you clear the bios and reset if you dont clear it the new bios generally wont work correctly

I've tried booting into safemode but I still get the Windows could not start would you like to run Startup Repair. And Startup repair has not been able to fix it. Just to clarify even though the Boot took longer after the BIOS update Windows worked fine for about 1 week.

How do you clear the BIOS? CMOS battery, using the jumpers or some other way?

Mate samuria made a good point and to clear the BIOS you need to either jumper it on the board or simply take out the battery and leave for a short while and then slip the battery back in.

I tried removing the battery and leaving it out for a while, but nothing really changed.

The problem could also be that the BIOS update has reset to defaults during the update. You may have to go through some settings and change them. Make sure its in AHCI mode and not IDE mode for example. Also check the boot order to see if your hard drive got shuffled down the list. It may be trying to network boot, then boot from the optical drive, etc. That will slow down the boot process as each option is tried before it moves on to the next one in the list.

How did you flash the BIOS? With a program inside windows, from BIOS app or from DOS mode?
Are you sure it was the correct BIOS for the new MB?
As mentioned, you should check ALL BIOS parameters.

That`s exactly what I would think the issue is.

Although, I`ve flashed mine twice now and my OC settings, XMP etc were untouched.

And whatta ya know, another Bios out for the Asus Z170 version 3007

I've flashed my ASUS laptop a few times, easyflash from the BIOS. I can't remember if any settings were lost of changed though? The last one was a few years ago now.

Ive checked around, the only thing above the hard drive in boot order is the DVD drive, which I think is normal. I will do it again when I get home. I will try to reinstall windows to see if I can boot into Windows.

I downloaded an exe file and procceded to install it. I thought it was. I bought the same motherboard that came with the PC originally, and couldnt find bios update anywhere else so I procceeded to download it from HPs website

What did you see on screen when you ran it? Sounds like you ran WinFlash. You do know what the difference is between a BIOS Flash and a driver update is right? You also made sure it was for your make and model motherboard right? In case your not ware of it, Flashing your BIOS is a big deal. Doing it incorrectly can turn it into a fancy piece of wall art.

Agreed, if you don`t need the bios update or if you are inexperienced at flashing the Bios, then leave it alone.

With that said, can you get into your Bios now ?

Is the problem strictly with windows not booting ?

Yes I can acces the BIOS, no I dont know the difference. I thought that was the only way to do it.
