Hi everyone, i have really strange problem i can't figure out for about 3 months now. Part by part i upgraded my machine, bought LC Power 600w PSU, ssd sata3 120gb, MB MSI B150M Mortar, Intel i3 6100, 2x4gb ddr4 and radeon hd 5870.
Few days ago i got fifth part replaced by PC Shop (long story) as it was malfunctioning. Replaced MB three times, and finaly after A LOT of kicking and swearing got my rig to turn on without dying in the next 5 minutes.

Now the problem here is that when i try to install OS i get blue screen with WHEA error and 0x00000124. I know that's hardware malfunction but which part? I got them all replaced twice and still nothing. Tried installing another OS, same problem at about 19-20% copying files. Tried with only one RAM than changing their places on all slots, another hdd, linux live usb (restarts on loading screen), put PSU on another PC with no problems, checked cpu, cpu fan, overall temperature (max 40C), switched to integrated graphics (took radeon out),
updated BIOS, googled for hours, did prime95, memtest86+, cpustress, system stability tester, burnintest, checked all OK, all tests passed like it is all just fine and ran for about 3 hours (in safe mode and DOS from UBCD).

So as a final resort i've put ssd in some intel laptop and installed windows 7 ultimate x64, put it back in PC and got it to work in safe mode at least (installed all drivers there from their web sites(msi and intel)), but when it starts normaly it chrashes as soon as it gets to the desktop screen. BOOM! bsod. every time. no exceptions.

So basically i have all new components, all tested ok and constant bsod when trying to install OS (no matter what OS 7/8/8.1/10/Linux on 3 different USB sticks). Settings in bios are on default.
I've put few dump files in attachment as instructed.
Any help would be great as i am all out of options here..

Hello and welcome midvik now I don't really quite know where to start the error below is almost certainly referring to a hardware problem and as you have changed so much it is going to be a matter of going through them all to search out the issue.

Code:
BUGCHECK_STR: [COLOR="Red"] 0x124[/COLOR]

First up you mention you did a memtest and I am wondering if it is the the only memtest we recommend and how long you ran it for? see this
Now to make absolutely we are on the same page the memtest linked here is the only*one we recommend and it MUST be run for at least 8 passes or you may as well not bother. It is rather lengthy and best left for a downtime for that machine - overnight is good. Having said that you can stop the test if errors show up while you are around and then it is a matter of tracking down the bad stick of RAM.* RAM - Test with Memtest86+
(This is pretyped to save time)

Next did you have a retail copy of Windows for the install on the new board? because if the copy is an OEM and you used it on the old board then without specific permission from Microsoft to use it on a new board then it will come up as non genuine. If you have a retail copy then it can be used up to about three times but only on one machine at a time.

Now can you check in the BIOS to see if it is set as a Secure boot because if it is enabled 7 will not boot.
See the warnings window in this Secure Boot - Enable or Disable in UEFI

Hi, thank you very much for reply.
As for your questions, i ran memtest86+ as said above, over night, about 9.5h, cpu for 'bout 5h. Hdd is 100% good as i am using it now in "backup" machine friend gave to me and is working fine from os install to all operations, never even a glitch. As for os, i am a student and as one at my faculty of technical sciences i have free ver of all os's so that is not a problem. Os is directly downloaded from microsoft and put on usb as instructed there and at atleast two more ways (win7 smart tools, rufus, win2usb, etc..) All os's i've tried are 100% genuine. I've got new MB replacement 4days ago, ram 2days ago, all new as warranty passed and they were faulty on some way. All except mb, ram n cpu is as good as russian lada, those three are new and tests say they are all fine but i have those annoying bsod problems that say f u ( sry for language..i'm a little bit over edge..)
I've studied this site and multiple other forums and threads and tried all the things that didn't even have connection to my problem just to see if it helps, but with no luck.. As i can access safe mode now i can see some errors that occur but can't solve them as i don't know what they mean. As you said, hardware issue but don't know what part of it.. I thought i have some knowledge about pc until now.. :(
I have tried both with uefi and without it, problem persists.

Maybe this helps, there's EZ led debug system on board. When it works as it should it blinks once all three (cpu, dram and vga). When i insert this new ram (no matter the socket) blink is a little bit longer on dram led ( i guess 'cause there are two) and continues regularely. I've tried to put only one of them, switched them over sockets both together and solo with same result.

Sorry late reply now the EZ stuff is that some form of software that came with the board? If so then I am wondering what is actually does and I am mentioning this because my Ivy Bridge build using an Asus board had this incredibly awful software disk that came with the board. I ended up uninstalling all of the nonsense that it had installed because it caused so many issues with the OS.

Now going off on a different tangent in the msinfo32 there are references to some problem devices see pic and can you check in the Device Manager for any devices with a yellow triangle against them please. If there is just what are those devices as I see from the report there is a PS2 kb and mouse installed. Now while these are good there may be an issue with those and it is worth a try with another keyboard and mouse may be wifi or USB connected ones.

Sry for the late reply :) software (drivers) were downloaded from official website, latest available. But problem turns up before i could even install OS, so i think drivers are not the problem. I've tried with another kb and mouse, all usb, don't have ps/2 ones so i don't know why are those shown as problem devices..for Microsoft ISATAP driver not loaded i think the reason is safe mode, as it can't load all drivers, for others is "not present" option :)

Here's bsod info i got from safe mode:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 124

BCP4: 0000000000010005
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

and after that figures changed to this:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:

I don't know what am i looking at here :) all i could do is do some more googling. What i found is some MCA problem with procesor or something. How could it not work when it went through all those stress tests?

Ok mate now the error 124 is almost certainly a hard ware problem and what I am not sure of is what you mean by this
But problem turns up before i could even install OS
just what problem is that?

Now what I do find rather concerning is that you stated in post #1 you have relaced so many parts and for so many times.

Plus you stated this too which escaped my notice until now
So as a final resort i've put ssd in some intel laptop and installed windows 7 ultimate x64, put it back in PC

Now just out of curiosity what installation media did you use? for example was it a genuine Microsoft DVD? or what. If that copy of Windows (OEM or retail) was activated on the laptop then simply transferring the SSD to the PC is not a viable option because the activation code for that copy will be tied to the laptop motherboard and even if you could run the OS on the PC sooner or later the servers at Microsoft will pick that up and ping you a message to say it is anon genuine copy of Windows.
So can you clarify exactly what you did.

Hi, yes i can.

1st quote: system is stable until i start os installation, when it comes to copying files (about 19-20% or less) it crashes with said bcod.
i replaced so many parts as they were faulty, but all new at the time. My current system specs are my current system specs that i've got last as replacements and have at this moment.

2nd quote: as i couldn't install OS on my current build i took ssd from it and put it into some hp pavilion g6 laptop, installed OS there and put back ssd into my rig where i could get only to safe mod (normal would crash in load or on desktop few seconds after win load).

As i said, installation media is USB, win installation is genuine from microsoft website, as i have free download from them with genuine cd-key over my college (any version). I've tried few USB-s but i don't have dvd-rom to try (i thought that any more HW would just mess things up more so i kept it simple).

Right so the copy is genuine and that is ok but what is bothering me is whether the activation code for it can be used on both machines or indeed more than two machines? I might have to ask for some clarification on that so bear with me.

WHEA, means Windows Hardware Error Architecture. The associated error Stop 0x00000124 also indicates a hardware problem.

This website might help you as it suggests things like overheating etc. Anyway read through it & see if you have covered everything, but keep in mind there is a serious hardware problem somewhere in your set up.

Have you tried replacing the CPU &, or are you sure it is properly seated on the motherboard.

The system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error.

Windows really needs to be installed on the system it will be running on or one of the same model. Otherwise you could run into stability issues.

Ranger4 CPU is seated well (i tried reseating it twice with new thermal paste), checked it and the temperature is max 40C. I don't have another MB with Skylake seat to try it on and i don't have the money to buy another one just to test, therefore i did all the tests on all components for that long. I don't see how can faulty HW endure those tests for that long and remain cool and without errors..

OH those magic words

I don't have another MB with Skylake

Been plowing thru event log
keeps reporting processor 2 event id's 18/19,
sometimes doesn't even report it, then states a problem with processor 3
in my ignorance coz im not a BSOD expert, would that imply a voltage problem??

When you say it's seated with new thermal paste, do you mean there is paste between the CPU & the motherboard socket. There should not be any paste in that area at all, the paste should only be between the CPU & the heat sink.

Ok so it is a retail copy I did not know that because I did ask what media you were using back in post #7 but I think you may ave misunderstood what info I was after.

So in that case the activation code is tied to the other board because you installed the system onto the SSD using that motherboard and I am assuming because you only transferred to SSD to the new machine the code is not actually activated on that motherboard or were you asked to activate it on the new machine??

torchwood Hi Roy, thank you for your time to help and sorry, i googled and found that different generations of 1151 have different names, didn't know that.. idk about voltage, 1st screen in bios shows all voltages, so i googled them to see if they are ok, and they are as in specifications. Maybe they change during installation, i'll see how and check that. Sorry if something i say sounds noob to you i'm no expert in this stuff. Just looking for a little help, that's all.
Ranger4 No, i'm not THAT noob to put thermal paste on pins on cpu seat, just between cpu and sink :D (it's new, coolermaster, got it as a gift when my 5th part was replaced. Guess they were ashamed a bit.. :P It's applied by the textbook, on the middle, right amount and it doesn't go over the top edge.)
ICIT2LOL I may have missunderstood you, sry. I think activation is not a problem here, it can work for several days without activation as long as it's installed and works, right? And no, it didn't ask me for activation again, just on laptop 1st time. On PC when it goes to safe mode, in system options it says "Windows is activated".

Just tried with another PSU, that voltage thing bothered me. No change. Right now i don't have parts to check cpu on another board, hope that cpu is not the problem but i'll look for a replacement to see if there's any difference.
Other things i've tried are downgrading bios to C6, yet another hard drive, another usb with original iso from microsoft and msi smart tools, unplugging everything from power and cmos battery for about half an hour, checking again if some pins below cpu are bent, cleaning cpu and applying new paste all over and installing win 7 from dvd-rom. I'll try to replace cpu again, maybe it's fighting with other components somehow. :/

Ok mate as long as it is working - having said that do not be surprised if they message you still because in the past they have messaged me up to a month after installing their softwares - admittedly mainly Office issues though.

Now when checking the CPU out mate if the pins are bent in that socket then usually the CPU will not function because of the very close tolerances of the distance between each one in the rows. If there are some bent though and this is what I have one in the past with AMD CPUs which have the pins on the CPU itself is to straighten them VERY gently with a plastic credit card back to alignment. The card edge is usually good enough to attain the straight line that is needed.
The thermal compound well you will find there are many preferences on how toapply this and the thig to remember is not to apply too much.
My method of doing this is to clean the two surfaces thoroughly with whatever you find is best I use Arctic Silver cleaners (and Arctic Silver 5 compound) to do this process. The compound I spread with a gloved (vinyl glove) finger to all the surface area of those two surfaces and then a rice grain sized spot of compound on the CPU this I find allows the compound spot to bleed out across the entire surfaces of the CPU and heat spreader on the cooling device.
These are the products I use Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean & Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 they are a little more expensive than most but you get what you pay for;)

But the choice is yours and I am sure the others may suggest other methods the choice is yours.

Hi, so after many more tests i decided to let professionals do the work and took my pc to the repair shop. It's there for a few days now and no news so far. Can't wait to hear what was the problem. Once i get it fixed, i'll post here so it may help someone with the same or similar problem.
