I am not sure if this have been discussed before but I have never been able to do any updates with my Windows 7 Rc I never thought it is a problem as it is Beta software

Yesterday I downloaded Zonealarm Beta for windows 7 and in the process of installing it disabled Windows firewall

Well all hell broke loose and I have since downloaded over 50(over 400meg) of updates from Microsoft website

I thought that maybe something else happened that caused the updates to happen so I went to one of my other PC's running 7 Rc and well after disabling the windows firewall the PC started updating from Microsoft update as well

So my verdict is that Windows firewall have been preventing my PC from doing any updates

It will be interesting to hear if someone else has experienced this

I do not yet use Windows 7, but using Zone Alarm for Windows Vista Home Premium x86, resulted in unexpected interupts from the Internet.

Maybe Uninstall ZoneAlarm, and try a different firewall/antispyware add-on.

Have a nice day!

Another good reason Not to use the win 7 firewall.

A miss-configured firewall (BY THE USER) does not make it a good reason not use it.

The default configuration of Windows Firewall would not have blocked Windows Update from working. This would have only happened if the user has gone in and alter the configuration.

Those updates worked fine for me and I never touched the Windows firewall. The only way that the firewall can be changed is by the user or by the Antivirus they installed.

The user did something to cause this otherwise everyone with Windows 7 would have seen the same problem with the Windows updates.
