Solved Windows 7 Ultimate x64, product key invalid, key or install problem?

Hi

I have this Windows 7 Ultimate x64 install a while ago and I believe it has one of those product keys people posted online and I was told it will work as long as it keeps rearming. But now I've decided to properly buy a key (from ebay, since i was told microsoft not selling Windows 7 key anymore?). Tried using the key from the "Change product key" and getting the "product key does not appear to be valid" message. At first i thought they gave me a bad key, so they gave me another one to try and it still didn't work. Now they suggest me to reinstall it from their iso and try again. I'm trying not to reinstall this yet as this machine has a lot of things installed/configured already.

So I'm just wondering is there anyway I can tell whether it is really this Windows install, or the keys are just bad (the guy selling fake keys)?

sounds like you been sold fake keys look like you been duped try to remove the your copy of windows isnt genunie error first there loads of methods to do it online search google to me if you installed a fresh install of windows over another copy already installed might be files still left behind to me you need to buy the proper disk with the key on the cover isos downloaded and keys brought online isnt worth the hassle it looks like your key is for a different version it looks like the keys u brought have been used on a pirate forum somewhere else or someone using a tool to generate a windows key and it to me it happens to be one ofr yours you brought??

I understand that the -3MBMV one is a bad key. What I'm not sure is whether the key I bought are valid or not. Or are you saying since this Windows 7 install already has a bad key, I cannot change the key by using a valid key? Thanks.

Thanks. That's handy. I've checked the keys given by the seller, and they are all "Valid" according to this PID checker. So does that mean there is a problem with my Windows 7 install, and the only solution is to reinstall it without using a bad key to start with? Thanks.

Seems that way. I suppose you could try a repair install.

Do you have install media? Form your first post, it seems you do.

If you want to try repair install, run setup.exe from your booted windows.
Setup.exe is in the sources folder of the install media. You can run it from dvd/usb/or just mount the iso if you have an isohandler.

You could have completed the repair install long ago.

If you knew the key was bad, why in the world did you use it.

Any Windows 7 COA key you bought by it's self is not going to be legal.
You can NOT buy legal Windows 7 COA keys that don't come with the media.

The odds of finding a legal Microsoft DVD and matching COA key for Windows 7 Ultimate are slim to none. Their doesn't seem to be any left in the market place.

I'm sorry if I have broken the rules. I knew that key is bad now, I didn't know when I first got that Windows install. You know how it is when you have some friends to setup computer for you.

Anyway I ended up reinstalling on top of my Windows install using the iso provided by the seller, and the key given by him now works and activated successfully. So I guess there was really something wrong with my install.

These indicate that your Microsoft Licensing Store files have been tampered with. With a proper (new) install this should not be happening.

You need to buy a legal copy of Windows 7 and not from the dork you have been getting them from.
Until you do that you are wasting your time.

Ahhh right. That's why they asked me to use his iso to install. But at least (I hope) I know what's happening now.

You probable will not be able to find any legal (Retail) Windows 7.

OEM/System Builders Windows Pro the last time I check is all that can be found.
If you do find a legal one it will not be at a discounted price. They are in high demand, which means you might have to pay more that normal.

Normal price for Windows 7 Pro was $140.00.
