win7 64 pro , disc image not showing?

Hi.
So today I decided to make a image of my OS using the Windows software. My laptop has a 250gb HD and my external HD is 80gb.

As I have just reinstalled my OS I figure it would be a good time to back up a image.

Mt laptop has around 40gb used so the 80gb hd should have plenty of room.

So first I created a recovery disc and then I backed up system to the external hd, all went well I thought?

So I decided to give it a test, put in the recovery disc >restarted the laptop while tapping the F12 key>then booted from the cd and chose to restore.

Well it could not find my external HD??

After that , I restarted ad checked my external HD and yes the backup files were in there?

Any ideas what I did wrong? Was I supposed to give the backed up files a certain name??

FWIW I have always used Acronis True Image on my other PCs, does the Wimdows software work as well?

Created boot disc with Windows 7 64 bit Pro make a restore/repair disc.

Using a external 80GB Net Disc hard drive w/ USb cable, YES ITS 2.0 USB.

Is its a pain I'm just going to get another Acronis as the prices have come done and I am familiar with there software.

Also i do have a thermaltake dock (esata) and other HD here, I figured since the 80gb one was self poewerd I could use that?

Macrium Reflect Free allows you to make an "emergency boot disk" and put the USB drivers on it, so that if your hard drive crashes, you can boot with the emergency boot disk, then plug in your external hard drive, because the USB drivers will be loaded into the Macrium environment.

See if Acronis has something similar to that.

I had never used Windows backup. I've made a backup of my SSD (OS disk) and saved on my USB flash disk.
Fist it say ed it couldn't save to the drive as it was a Fat32 and should be NTFS. Then it proceed and saved the disk backup to the USB flash disk.
Going to test it.

What format you have on the 80G USB HDD?

I never did either and decided to give it a try but after this I will stick with Acronis, which I have been using for many many years.

Now that I see that the prices have really came down, I wll just get a copy off Ebay. Bought one last year for my other PC off E bay for $11 or $15, yes it was new in the box and legit? Ask how I know as I have used them a few times for support.

Of course Acronis does all that and they have been around for years and extremely well rated
