I need to install windows 7 32bit on a HP elitedesk 705 G3 desktop. This desktop currently has windows 10 installed that works just fine. The software that I will need will only work with windows 7 32bit.

The mouse and keyboard will not work when I get to the first installation screen when booting from the windows 7 install disc (the screen where you select the language).

I have tried EVERY USB port, both 2.0 and 3.0.

I have restarted countless times after reconnecting to different USB ports

BIOS Version is P06 Ver.02.06 06/20/2017

Some BIOS settings I have played with,

  • Disabling fast boot
  • Enabling legacy support
  • Disabling secure boot
  • Disabling UFCI boot and only allowing it to boot from the legacy DVD drive
  • different mouses and keyboards

The only thing i havent been able to try is using a PS2 mouse or keyboard. I will try this later when I have one but there has to be another way.

Can I burn the windows 7 installation disc to a usb drive and add drivers?

UPDATE: Apparently the computer I've been using does not support Windows 7....

After trying just about everything, including the ps2 mouse I figured something was up and I contacted HP. I confirmed the HP elitedesk 705 G3 has 2 different models where 1 of them supports downgrading to a previous version of Windows and 1 does not. I have the one that does not support downgrading...

If anyone knows of any way to work around this it would be much appreciated

Is the HDD a Legacy - MBR or UEFI - GPT?
Did you format the disc?
Where did you get the Windows 7 from, and have you got a valid Product Key?
Is it a DVD or a burned ISO?

I hope this helps!

New chipsets requires USB and SATA drivers that are not on the Win 7 installation disk. You need to add them to win 7 installation disk.
SIW2 has made a tool to add the drivers to the installation disk.
Update your Win 7 installation media.

Thanks for the responses, I have not formatted my SSD on the HP desktop. From my understanding, when I put the Windows 7 disc in it would give me the option to do a clean install. I'm going to try what Megahertz07 suggested, hopefully that works.

My computer specs are,

Windows 10 64-bit, but I am trying to install Windows 7 32 bit

CPU - AMD PRO A6-8570 APU

Graphics - Radeon™ R5 Graphics

Chipset - AMD B350 FCH

RAM - 4 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM

Storage - 256GB HP SSD

I'll also add that the Windows 7 disc is completely genuine as far as I know. It was bought from a licensed 3rd party (Newegg.com) and came completely sealed with the product key. It's old (manufactured in 2010) so it was probably just sitting in storage waiting for some poor sap like me to be forced to buy it. I don't see why the age would matter though.

Hi Walks,

Does the disc include SP1?
If not, it will be a lot easier to download an ISO with SP1 already included and use that. Then use the Utility Tool that SIW2 has written to incorporate the drivers and all the updates!

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you backup ALL your essential files before you start a clean install. This is because during the clean install process, ALL your Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, Data Files and any installed software programs will be erased and become irretrievable.

I hope this helps!

I don't think the installation disc includes the SP1. Can I just download it from the Microsoft website and boot it from a USB? The installation disc itself says it does not have any available space.

If I were to try installing from the disc while Windows 10 is running, the installation will fail and I get an error saying "Windows cannot find file space for temporary files. 686mb of space is required."

So I tried copying the installation disc to a USB drive and it fails with an error only saying that it failed to install and to restart the installation. No error code, no description just "it failed, try again".

I've verified that the Windows 7 disc includes SP1.
