Solved Win 7 x64 install bsod STOP: 0x0000007E

Hi. I bought a refurbished laptop MSI GT70 0ND and that was one of the worst desicions I have made. GPU was problematic and it was cheaply repaired even before I bought it. It died right after the warranty ended and there was nothing I could do. Anyways I took it to a service center and he told me GPU was dead. He removed the card and told me to use it with onboard GPU. It worked fine. But I did not find any use for it and I shelved it for around 2 years. I start it now and the audio seems dead. I only get crackling sound from speakers and headphones. But I am not much bothered about it as there are a lot of cheap fixes for that. Battery dead. But again not a big deal. As i want to use this laptop only to watch movies. But when I tried to fresh install win 7 x64, even before install completed bsod shows up STOP: 0x0000007E. Tried multiple runs. All same results. Not able to get past that. Although I was able to get win 8.1 and win 10 x64 running. I would like to stick to win 7 as MSI has stopped support for this model and some drivers do not work on later OS versions. Can someone help me get past this. I do not want to buy a new laptop.

Being that Win 8.1 and 10 installed I would say your install media for Win7 is corrupt!

Here's a link to obtain a Win7 ISO TechBenchby WZT (only link to Win7 Ultimate working) all editions (pro, home premium, etc.) can be made available from any windows 7 ISO - either by removing the ei.cfg file from the sources folder, or by using eicfg_removal_utility.zip

You cannot copy and paste an ISO file to DVD or USB and have it boot.

Burn the ISO to DVD with ImgBurn
or
Burn the ISO to USB with Rufus

If you continue to receive the error with the fresh Win7 install media, try formatting the drive before you try to install Win7.

Actually that is possible having done it myself countless times.

I believe OP may be using OEM key, however, I could be mistaken as I didn't inquire about it. If so, Microsoft is no longer permitting OEM keys.

You mean with an OEM key one can't download an ISO?

Mount the ISO, copy all files to a bootable USB and boot from it. That usually works perfectly, though sometimes a few settings in the BIOS have to be changed.

OEM key won't work on Microsoft Download page. I have OEM Win7x64 Home on HP desktop. Entering my key results in see your computer manufacturer for a disk (or similar terminology) SIW2 provided the Tech-Bench by WZT link which I believe is to Microsoft server, only the Ultimate x32 and x64 links are working. [FONT=&quot]ei.cfg utility to remove that file or delete it from install wim for all versions to be available.[/FONT]
I understand the mount ISO! I should have thought of that on my own! Basically that is what RUFUS, WintoUSB, ImgBurn does with the ISO I believe. DUH!
That may be a little to technical for most OPs to grasp!

Well you were correct. Either the iso was faulty or there was an error while making a bootable USB drive. I tried another version of the is and it ran fine. I should have actually tried this before I posted here. But I felt that the error mentioned in the BSOD is likely to be an actual problem with my laptop hardware as it is in the process of dying.
