New 1TB hard drive can't setup

Hi guys

I've searched the forum and read every tutorial.

I have a serious problem. Long story short my laptop Windows 7 32bit starts up the the desktop locks nothing responds. Press Ctrl+Alt+delete doesn't bring up Task Manager. Turn it off and restart a few time. The it does a chkdsk. Previous chkdsk it takes over a day to complete this time it took 20 minutes. The message on the screen said 24 bad blocks.

Ok I need a new hard drive. I searched Currys and they showed 2 drives on the list.

I asked a guy that showed me the drives this one is SATA III mine is SATA II will it still work. He said yes its just a faster drive.


There is a 45 page booklet with the new drive that only talks about the warranty not how in install.

When I start up now it shows recover files or startup as normal. Recover files takes hours and never finishes. When I bought my laptop in 2012 it had Windows 8 64bit installed.

I set that up with l Computer Management MBR. Windows 7 32bit installed no problem. I plugged the old Windows 8 drive back in and the startup message says insert installation CD. Wht the hell does it say that as it worked perfectly when I removed it?

The thing is this SATA III compatible with my system. Or have I got to take it back for a refund if WD Mainstream 2.5" Internal Hard Drive is not available. Or ask them to make it MBR.


The addition problem I have is the CD/DVD drive popped out 1.5" when it fell on the carpet a while I pushed it back in and thought nothing about. I tried to install some software later and the drive would only pop out 1.5". I have an external USD DVD drive I use to install anything.

While I've remmoved the old hard drive I decided to look why the drive does pop out. I've looked at many Tube video's Samsung didmantling. I still can't remove the DVD drive.

I downloaded Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe but when I run it on Windows XP 32bit. It says Microsoft Image Mastering API v2.0 is needed. The Windows XP 32bit are no longer available only 64bit.

That's another thing that pisses me off with Microsoft when Bill Gates stated that ALL Windows software is compatible with all Windows system. So why isn't 32bit compatible with 64bit if 32bit isn't available.

I have a 4GB flash drive. I put all the files and folders into a drive of the Windows 7 CD I uses PowerISO to make an iso file. But if I put it on the flash drive I can't get it to show USB on startup there is no option.

Any help with my problems will be much appreciated.

Keith, before any of the guys get here to help you out, can I ask why you are using Windows 7 32bit rather than 64bit?

The reason is because the software I always use on every computer is 32bit. When I tried to install my main Visual Basic 6 on 64bit it wouldn't install disable Data Access I has to search my VBforum for this problem which their solution fixed. I don't need to install all options I had to leave out one. I can't post the link as that's against forum rules.

When I installed the free Windows 10 from Microsoft that had the same problems as other preinstalled software wouldn't run.

You will need a proper Windows 7 ISO (you can't make one the way you tried), the problem is the Pro version is no longer available to download from Microsoft, however the Ultimate version is and can be easily tweaked to make it a universal all edition disk.

Download Win 7 Ultimate from here (it gets the ISO's direct from Microsoft) - TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

Once you have the ISO you will need to remove the ei.cfg file, you can download the ei.cfg removal tool from here that will do it automatically - winisoutils - Windows ISO Disc Image Utilities

When you have patched the ISO with the ei.cfg removal tool then use Rufus to make a bootable USB stick - USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

I downloaded Rufus as its talked about on here but when I ran it nothing happens. I ran it as administrator and still nothing happened.

Even if I got the proper software my BIOS doesn't allow me to select USB as a boot drive.

Would you say that new drive is correct SATA III instead of the SATA II I bought before and has worked for 5 years?

SATA III is backward compatible with SATA II, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Well I'm a mechanic mk1, mk2, mk3, mk4, mk5 and mk6. Nothing useful of an mk6 will fit on mk1.

To me the bigger the number the newer it is and there is no backward compatibility.

If I have to take it back I will ask them. Its very strange that the last drive I bought was SATA II setup with diskpart and checked with Computer Management worked perfectly so why won't this new one?

I don't install any software that doesn't work without a fix.

PowerISO does work on both computers. Visual Basic does work on both 32bit computers but not on my original Windows 8 64bit that's why I use 32bit.

To resolve this issue, verify that the BIOS on your computer is current
Make sure that the latest revision for BIOS is installed on the computer. Contact the computer manufacture

rename bootmgr to ntldr this works. So that is a good tip for USB or new hard drive installers.

The hard drive is held in with no screws. Its only the connector block which total crap

The cover is held in with 11 screws top and 11 bottom.

I still can't get it apart to see why the DVD draw only comes out 1.5" again total crap.

Ok most of my software is installed and working. There is a few bugs with this Windows 7 compared with previous installs.

When it first did a restart after installing drivers. It shows Windows Boot Manager which 2 options.

Window 7 or Windows Setup [EMS enabled] or tab for Memory Checker. You can leave it a few seconds and
Window 7 starts as normal.

It left all the installation folders behind. I deleted them but the same Windows Boot Manager shows on startup.

I have Windows Explorer short-cut on the desktop and pinned to the taskbar and also pinned to the start button menu.

The other slightly annoying thing is it does save links to folder I commonly use, where it used to before.

After I installed everything and tried it out for a week. I decided to install the Windows updates.

It showed 107 updates but when I clicked install and message came back windows update error 8007000E. I search this forum and nothing was shows. I Goggled windows update error 8007000E and I had to download

I ran that and the updates downloaded and installed. If Windows software is so clever it should have known the error code and installed this file. All updates downloaded and installed.
