Hi! What will it involve - for me to upgrade my Windows 7 computer up to Windows 10? And what is the cheapest way to restore it whenever crashes may happen now and then through the future - (1) Using a set of Restore disks or (2) Buying more Ram?

If Windows 10 has the option for creating my own Restore disk set, are typical CDs or DVDs enough? Or do I need something bigger than that for the purpose?

I know I can download windows 10 upgrade. But I first want to know what method I should use for restoring it to factory new condition whenever it may crash.

I have the typical amount of GB in my computer - 4 GB. I'm making a slideshow to upload to Youtube, that is a little over 5 hours long. So should I get more Ram or is it ok to just upload it in pieces and then put it back together into one, after I get it all uploaded to Youtube?:p

Win10 is simple down the upgrade run it job done Once its installed and activated if you want to reinstall it you can download it free at any time. As you only have 4 gig of ram I assume your running a 32 bit windows if you added more ram you would need to do a clean installof a 64bit system. What are you using to build the movie as that can effect its output etc.

Hi! I have a Lenovo Thinkpad sl510 laptop computer, that has the Windows 7 system on it. And I have 4 GB in my computer. That's what Cpuid CPU-Z program I downloaded, says. My System information says so also. The slideshow I'm making, is what I am making (and have almost finished it by now) with Microsft's Window Movie maker - that comes with Windows Essentials 2012. I am saving it all as I make it - onto DVDs as a backup. By the way, if I should get more Ram, then how do I identify the right kind of DDR3 Ram to buy? I know I need to make sure it is not the desktop kind. But I saw a number of them labeled as being DDR2L in Ebay. I don't know what the L means. Would that kind be appropriate for my computer?
By the way, you said that all I have to do if windows crashes is to just download it again. But if it crashes so that I'm not able to get online any more, is it ok to use my set of Windows 7 repair disks I've always used, in order to be able to get online again. And then download the Windows 10 setup again? Would that work ok? Thanks.

You crete the dvd or usb to do the upgrade and then you have it as a restore disk. For memory I always say take it to a local shop and get them to fit it for you then you know its right and the shops responsibility not yours. Movie maker is the most basic video maker and no very effective there is a free HitFilm Express: Free editing & VFX software - fxhome.com which does verything or a simple one [OFFICIAL] Filmora9 Wondershare Video Editor(Win&Mac) | Download Now! both create better video and more efficient. Have you got a youtube channel as uploading that big of file is restricted

Hi! Thank you for your advice! I will do what you said about downloading windows 10 system, and then making restore disks for it before doing anything else. Then some time after that, I'll see if I like any of the move make programs you told me about, and try out any that looks like they suit me well. Ok you can bring this to a close now, since you have answered all my questions. Thanks again!

My advice is to replace the HDD of your laptop with SSD.
Download Win 10 (32 bits for 4G of memory or less and 64 bits for more than 4G of memory).
Do a fresh install of Win 10. Use the Win 7 COA key that is under the laptop or under the battery.

If you like Win 10 you can transfer your data to the SSD. If you don't you can clone the Win 7 HDD to the SSD.

Hi! I can't logon to your forum any more, except to do it through this link I had to you in my emails from you. Is there a way this problem can be fixed? And do I need a different username and password for Windowstenforum? When I tried to logon to your site just from Google search page, I couldn't do it, as I said. Error message said you don't recognize my email address. It said that after I requested to reset my password. Thanks for any help you can give in this!

I still have a Windows 7 computer. But I also have a windows 10 computer now, since I converted it to the Windows 10 system now. So I need advice at times, for both of my computers.

If you like Win 10 you can transfer your data to the SSD. If you don't you can clone the Win 7 HDD to the SSD.

I agree with Megahertz excellent suggestion, though, I would install a 64bit version if your cpu allows it with 4GB of RAM. If you had 3GB or less then maybe 32bit. I've used many pc's with 4GB of RAM with Windows 10 and they run well enough depending on your workload. Video Editing requires more RAM if that is what you are asking.

DVD Yes, CD No, USB Better! Then keep the USB and you can use it to restore or repair Windows 10. Get an 8GB on sale for the install media.

Getting the 10 license on the computer now is a good idea, with the new Drive suggested by Megahertz. This way you will get it before it is not available for Upgrade anymore. Windows 10 has many issues, and Windows 7 still has more time left on it, I would keep Window 7. And you can still go back if 10 does not work out with the new SSD.

Don't know about your issue with the link to this forum but you can always type: sevenforums.com to get here. Or Click on that link now and when it opens in another Tab, Bookmark it.

Yes Tenforums.com requires a different User Name and Password. Learn how to use Bookmarks, if you don't know ask here in another Thread.

Please follow these directions to post the Laptop that you are trying to install windows 10 to. Include the Exact Model Number if possible also. It will be on the bottom of the laptop or under the battery in small text.

1. Click on Menu

2. Type "System Information", and not "System Configuration" and Click on it.

3. It will now be on System Summary by Default.

4. Click "Edit" in Top Left, and then Click "Select All"

5. Then Select "Copy" also from the "Edit" Dropdown.

6. Now you can Paste it to wherever you want, directly into your Post, to Notepad or a Word Document.

Why I suggested win 7 32 with 4G or less memory:
- Win 7 64 minimal M$ recommendation is 2G. That was before SP1. With SP1 Win 7 64 use about 3G only for it.
Most laptops use part of memory for graphics (~0.8G)
4-3-0.8= 0.2G for running programs. It will make use of disk virtual memory (very slow)

- Win 7 32 minimal M$ recommendation is 1G. That was before SP1. With SP1 Win 7 32 use about 1.6G only for it.
Most laptops use part of memory for graphics (~0.8G)
4-1.6-0.8= 1.6G for running programs. That is 8 times what you have with win 7 64.
