Hi! Do all online games contain viruses? I never download them. I never play them - but I only let my young toddler grandchildren play toddler games online on my computer, now and then.

I woud think that it would be more orientated towards adverts etc than viruses. There could be Spyware and Malware but this obviously depends on the integrity of the sites used!

Ok thanks for explaining! I guess I could try out checking them over first with Virus Total before using them. It's hard to know otherwise, which sites are safe or not, I'd guess. Though all I get for them are educational games for kids. But lots of them try to get people to pay after a trial period. You can close this.

why chance it? simply buy a multi-game program at the store, install and never even deal with the internet. issue gone!

You can use Steam or Uplay to play online games and be sure that these do not contain any viruses =)

Although I agree that the commercial Disk or USB stick is the safest method of obtaining games or any other software you still have to be careful.

I can recall the infamous Lotus 123 incident where the world's favorite Spreadsheet program, [This was pre Windows / Excel], due to a disgruntled employee, was shipped, [Shrink Wrapped], containing a virus.

These days this kind of thing should never happen as the software developers are fully malware aware and checks are manyfold, but it should not have happened in the past either, so ensure you run a good anti-malware suite, and keep it up to date.

Also remember if a deal looks too good to be true, then it probably is, and will usually contain some free "add-ons" that you do not want, Viruses, worms, keyloggers

Malicious advertisements (I do mean from the hosting site) occur on forums often enough.

Web admin -> Advertiser -> (Sub-leasing pack of bowl of spaghetti of ads from various places) -> 'attempts at software exploitation'

... At least: I think that's how the order of operations go.

At the OP:
I wouldn't worry too much about 'software viruses.' It is software, after all!
