KB4499175 updated, now spurious desktop folder "Libraries (32-bit)"

I did a direct download of KB4499175 from a link here. Running it and rebooting, everything seemed fine. Then I noticed a new folder on my desktop, I don't remember the name now, something generic. It wouldn't open or recycle. After another reboot it's gone but I have another new folder, again it won't open or recycle. This time it's named "Libraries (32-bit)"

Hi Roland, thanks. As I'd hoped to convey, it doesn't open. Hence I can't see 'inside'. And dual-pane file tools don't even see it.

[1] Is there any particular reason for downloading and installing that update now, because it is the May 14, 2019 - KB4499175 [Security-Only Update]?

[2] If you right-click on the folder and select Properties, what is the FULL path of the folder?

[3] Do you normally install the Monthly Cumulative Rollup or the Security-Only Update]?

I was reading a web page talking about needing a security patch for the Remote Desktop function. Drilling through, I came to the specific KB and downloaded and ran (only) it. The right-click process doesn't show the expected, only this as seen in this snap. I suppose I'd be happy enough if I could just uninstall the KB and have things back as they were. I don't really need to know the hows and whys of this.

Hi Gene Poole,

I was reading a web page talking about needing a security patch for the Remote Desktop function. Drilling through, I came to the specific KB and downloaded and ran (only) it.

[1] Unless you use the Remote Desktop function, you DON'T need the update!
[2] If you do, an excellent alternative is TeamViewer [FREE].

I suppose I'd be happy enough if I could just uninstall the KB and have things back as they were. I don't really need to know the hows and whys of this.

There are two options available for this . . .

[1] You could try using a Restore Point PRIOR to you downloading and installing KB4499175.
[2] To uninstall KB4499175, download and run this batch script that I have just written for you => View attachment Uninstall_KB_Updates.bat.

I hope this helps!

Yes, thanks, I do use Teamviewer on occasion, have never used Remote Desktop. But I patched thinking that the underlying remote tech could compromise the Tviewer security. No?
I've never had any success with Restore Points, so I use Aomei about once a month to backup my system partition. Right now my backup is 32 days old and I don't feel this warrants the effort to restore and then reinstall software update. So I'm going to give your BAT a try.

Hi Gene Poole,

I have never used or patched the Remote Desktop function, and I have never found that it has impacted in ANY way with TeamViewer. In fact, on one of the builds I excluded the Remote Desktop function altogether, again, without ANY impact at all!

I've never had any success with Restore Points, so I use Aomei about once a month to backup my system partition. Right now my backup is 32 days old and I don't feel this warrants the effort to restore and then reinstall software update.

AOMEI is an excellent bit of software, I use it all the time!

I hope this helps!

sounds like 32 bit kb was installed by mistake, not supposed to be, well...
To uninstall the kb, run Uninstall 4499175.bat from my OneDrive
downloading again from M$ Catalog and reinstalling it

OK, what I meant was that Tviewer could seem to work fine, but below the surface some hack could be harvesting your account passwords or your overall online identity.

If only Ten *looked* better, the ice-block look rankles me, and if it didn't need its privacy intrusions tamed by little utility tweaks constantly playing catch-up.

Thanks Paul and Bill. I just ran Uninstall KB4499175.bat from OneDrive, seemed to work fine, and after reboot that pesky icon is gone.
I have been using it for years without ANY problems.
Same here. I conclude that I don't need Remote Desktop and if I don't run it I don't need any patch for it.
