Sapphire HD 3850 AGP Card driver not working in Win7

A resounding YES! :D

I just checked that to make sure it's correct. You do have both slots which is very rare. You can run any latest video card you please, as long as its PCI-e.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveDual-eSATA2

I feel better now. :D

Make sure your power supply has a 6 pin connector for it. If not, it will be a little difficult to install, but can be done with an adapter and/or splicing rails if need be.

Actually, not really. I never used PCI-e before and almost everyone else here does. Perhaps another user can tell you what they like.

I do know a thing or two though about ATI HD series. Without research and if I had to pick for myself, I'd say anything HD 4xxx or HD 5xxx.

The new HD 5xxx models have DX11 capability, which if you're a gamer, you want.

I'm an ATI dude, heh. So let an NVidia guy recommend too.

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter...

.

Download the 64 bit, latest Catalyst driver from ATI. Run the install and allow it to extract to C:\ATI...

Open the .inf with CL in its name in notepad. It's inside the extracted packages\drivers\display folder.

Now in the [ATI.Mfg.NTx86.6.0] section, copy and paste to add this line:

"ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9515

Hit ctrl+s to save it. Close notepad. Open device manager. Right click on the video card. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse.

Now find the .inf you just edited and saved. If it complains that the driver is unsigned, tell it to install anyway.

After, run setup.exe in extracted folder to get CCC.

I have the same problem but this fix does not seem to work for me.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 (875P chipset) and I am trying to run a Sapphire HD 3850 AGP with Windows 7 Pro 32bit.
Everything was working fine with XP SP3, but I felt adventurous...

According to the Windows 7 Upgrade advisor of 1 week ago, I was supposed to be able to run Windows Aero. According to the Windows 7 Upgrade advisor of last night, my "current graphics adapter won't support the Windows Aero user interface"! go figure!
Anyway, I had received the DVD and I decided to still install Windows 7...

My Graphics card now shows as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter".
The HW Ids are:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9515&SUBSYS_00281174B&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9515&SUBSYS_00281174B
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9515&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9515&CC_0300

The report.xml file from Catalyst Install Manager correctly identifies the HW and shows that both itself and Visual C++ got installed successfully. CCC 9.10 on the other end is not visible.

I have edited CL_83742.inf to add the line proposed by Torrentg.
I tried later to also modify CW_83742.inf the same way (just in case).

I tried in Normal boot mode, I tried in Safe mode, I tried in "Disable Drive Signature Enforcement" mode, I tried to uninstall the driver first, but every attempt has rewarded me with a "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"!
It does not even complain that the driver is unsigned.

Could someone tell me if there is a HW incompatibility somewhere (similar to the other follows with their nForce3)?
Is there a way to force Windows 7 to load the driver?

I am running out of ideas...

It does not even complain that the driver is unsigned.

That was the incorrect part.

--------------------------------

This way:

Update the driver by going to device manager, right click card, update driver software, browse, let me pick, have disk, browse. Find the .inf file you edited and click (or double click) on it.

If it complains that it's unsigned, install anyway. Reboot. Choose an Aero theme by right clicking desktop, personalize.

(for x86, change dir as appropriate for x64)

Run setup.exe in C:\ATI\Support\9-10_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver

to get CCC installed.

Hello,

I too have a 3850 AGP (Sapphire 3850 AGP to be exact) and am experiencing the same problems installing the driver for Windows 7, 64 bit. I have tried following your steps given, more specifically the ones here: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-...hd-3850-agp-card-driver-not-working-win7.html that you had for a 64 bit user. I used exactly the same revisions to my INF file as he did. The driver installs and upon reboot, I get the blue screen of death. I then have to reboot in safe mode, uninstall the driver and try again. I have tried using the hotfix drivers too but those we a no go either.

I also noticed that some people were having problems because they have an nforce chip set. I have an ABIT AV8 board with a VIA VT8237 chipset, if that helps.

Also, I should also note, that before installing Windows 7, I had no problems whatsoever running this card on the same system with Vista 32 bit. My specs of my Saphire Card are exactly the same as the user's in the link I posted above.

Please Help! I'm almost ready to go back to Vista but I'm willing to keep on fighting the good fight.

As long as the hardware id you're using is the same, should work fine.

Best chance for success is to update motherboard bios if one is available. Also, check the manufacturer's website as well for updated chipset drivers. Specifically, CPU to AGP bridge is of interest (part of chipset driver package.)

Make sure when you edit the .inf, you add the line to [ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.6.1] section.

You'll also have to Google for a way to permanently disable driver signing enforcement or something like that. It does exist.

If you can't find how to, you'll need to use f8 or similar to choose not to check drivers each time you boot the machine.

If you can't get it going, x86 is a much better choice to use for Windows 7 installation.

NVidia does not support Vista or 7 with that chipset, hence there never was a driver made for it that will work on these operating systems. This means that if you want graphics acceleration, you must use Windows XP.

This is not Microsoft's fault or Windows Vista/7 fault in any way. It is NVidia that decided to move your chipset to legacy standing a long time ago.

Hi.

No, I don't usually make hardware recommendations to purchase unless someone specifically comes to me asking if a specific model of something can be used. I'm not going to go and pick something out for you.

Any motherboard for sale that you can find in a normal reputable store (not like a thrift shop or barter shop etc...) will run Windows 7. I suggest looking at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com

If you want to reuse the other hardware you have now, like ram, psu, cpu etc...get a board that is compatible with all them. General advice is to get something by Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Intel. ECS (Elitegroup) and PCChips make cheaper, but still good, boards.

Going by the fact that there seems to at least be Vista drivers for it's VT8237 chipset, I'd say sure, it will work.
