what is wrong with my computer and how to fix

Hi, list disk in diskpart shows total bites as used and 0 free.
windows explorer, names local disk but not assigned volume letters like c,d, e
while disk manager , shows c, d volume as partitioned , but not showing any drive letter like c,d e,f
how to fix this problem, without loosing any data on any partition
why this is showing like this.
i have just partitioned the drive to two, in the installation stages correctly .

If you are using Microsoft Diskpart, that may be an issue!

my drive letter came back and i could access in cmd
but , why the diskpart, shows total hard disc space as used

secondly cd drive eventhough online,does not show up
In order to show system files, i have unchecked the show drive letters, which is defaultly checked or ticked.

If you want to see system files check the button above the "Show drive letters" that says "Show hidden files, folders, and drives".

the first is the hdd and the second is external hard disk.
both gives the wrong free spaces

My disk that is not GPT is Linux Lite x64 OS.

Nice explanation.
i am having 500 gb disk. If i prefer tbs disk ten, a chkdsk would be running for ever for days.
i also see that there is a provision of converting to gpt, in windows 7.
If only free space is the thing, then mbr is enough. i souht your advice on this.
what are the other advantages, if i continue to stay in windows 7.
can i know, if my windows supports uefi or bios only.

Snick, why you're telling that it should be GPT? I don't see any reason.
It can't be GPT as it is the boot able drive, the MB isn't UEFI and his OS is 32 bits

GPT disk is only mandatory if you have a drive bigger than 2.2T and that is not the case.
To have a GPT boot able drive, you need to have UEFI BIOS and the OS must be 64 bits (that is not the case).


jraju do a disk check on both drives
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk C: /f
It will say the drive is in use and if you want to schedule no next start = Yes
then
chkdsk D: /f
chkdsk x: /f (replace x with the letter assigned to the external disk)
restart

Hi, Snick, thanks for valuable information . i want to convert my hdd, new one, to gpt, because, it will have the uefi bios , to upgrade to windows 10.
You said that i could convert the mbr to gpt my some software.
Would it not overwrite the bios
or should i buy uefi supported mother boards.
the technical terms are not known to me
if i had known, i would have bought the gpt harddrive

Hi, Meghan, So, if i want to have windows 10, i should have a different set of motherboard, hard disk, processors , Ram,smps etc. Is it not
my mother board is a recent bought one without my knowing the fact about uefi
Then how did so many upgraaded to windows 10 earlier.
Please tell me how i could use my formatted but somewhat having bad sectors to use that as a data drive.
Can i just attach the same with data and power and please tell me the procedure for the same.

If the above is not your computer you're talking about, please give us the specs.
- If your HDD has bad sectors, the drive is dying. You have to replace it.

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.
