getting rid of the shared files folder

Hello
Dynentan

This is a very good question, thank you.
My XP files "table of contents" was the "Sanest" part of the machine, very easy to read, and when i went to it I had no DUPE files, by this i mean, on my seven when i go to documents, The "Home group" files is hanging open, which is redundant and confusional.
also I would like to toss out
Desk top
Library's
and a Documents folder,,,,, i must open to get to yet another  documents folder where the goods are and bring it down from 2 icons (one to get to the other.
is there a way to toss desk top (which shows twice) and just get one Icon for each dept of files.
Also it would be nice to get the screen to open all the way large instead of half screen.

You can't throw out those 3 folders; they're system folders. And what would your screen look like without a Desktop?

I don't use Libraries, just ignore them, because I established the way I want my data arranged way back in Win 95.

Hi RoWin

whether my BoBo or yours, you missed my point,
I have a documents Folder, but must click it again to get yet again to another documents folder, why the redundancy :banghead: why not get to them first click :sa: ?

what would my desk top screen look like with out desk top "folder" a lot less of i never use junk in my table of contents,,,,if the machine was made with just a little grace, it would look exactly the same, why a folder for what i already see on the screen-so who cares-redundancy again
the same with home group file and owner file, What the table of contents needs is a "Hide all redundant junk here file"
Heres the pisser, often when i click
my documents short cut on desk top, these junk yards are often hanging wide open with a world more of never use tech files so when it opens I have this world of distracting math tech crap files looking at me :mad2:
only a nuclear physicist would care about, and god bless the nuclear physicist, but i am just a "USER"
I did not turn on the TV to learn how to fix TV's :banghead:, I turned on the TV to watch daffy duck cartoons.
Warning RoWin, and if you start in on Daffy Duck were done, its over.

Nonsense; I loved Daffy Duck when I was a kid in in the '40's and '50's.

You're saying your My Documents folder is in another one called "Documents." I have no experience with that, and I have 4 Win7 machines. How about a screenshot?

Unfortunately "My Computer" isn't just a table of contents. It represents the lack of logic of coders at M$. Only about 2/3 of it is arranged logically.

Without a desktop, the screen would be black. It's your starting page, otherwise you'd be staring at a black screen, unable to do anything. I'm aware that the one at the top of the hierarchy in My Computer is identical to the copy in Users\[myname]. It's actually 2 views of the same folder. Again, the reason? It's M$.

Maybe some of these gentlemen can help you hide some folders.

Yes, I have C:\Users\Public, but I use it. Also Libraries, which I don't use, and Desktop which we MUST use. I've moved Documents to Drive D, so I can have all my data together.

Yes, but do you have the Shared Files folder under C:\Users that the author wants to get rid of?

Well, this is what he said in his original post-

"how do you get rid of the shared files folder found in the users folder?"

so I think you're correct. I had mentioned C:\Users on a couple of occasions and he didn't say anything about it.

RowWin7, I have done as you have done documents going to D[ata partition], don't use libraries either, I have a question: Since I have never paid attention to Users Public, how do you use it? If you want, in order to not derail this thread, do you want to start a new thread and PM me the URL to it?

Hi Jim -

I'm with you on this - has driven me crazy since the day Win 7 came out!

Hi folks, I don't mean to leave a post and let it drift unanswered, but I am being hit busy hard with pandemic issues.
The issue is atomic visual clutter, I open doc's and files are hanging open and again i end up with three sets of everything, three ways to open docs, music Etc.
I can manually shut all of it, and then i get a nice zero redundancy choice, but upon opening Doc's again ts all hanging open, when i right click on a file I get a "Collapse" but no hide option,
imagine opening a desk drawl and you had 3 sets of all the same files,
desk top file is the worst, always open till i close it, and to the poster who said but you need that, no I don't, I already see short cuts Etc. on my comp screen every time i turn it on. my home short cut screen is all i need, if i don't want a short cut any more I right click and delete short cut off screen.
So I guess what i am hearing here is........7 users are stuck with it.

:mad2:
Thankfully the real adults :busted: have at last seen what the kids have built in computer culture and the anti trust suites are starting. I repeat, the most hi tech creation of man, is a organized table of contents page.
Thank you to all who posted here.

The Nat. Institute of Health actually told Disney to stop showing daffy as a "Escaped Mental Patient" which he was in first cartoons before my time, so he morphed into a "Free Range" crazy duck. :roflmao:

I said you need the desktop as a folder, and it is a specialized folder, not files on the desktop. To choose desktop shortcuts, right-click on an empty space, "Personalize" >"Change desktop icons" at the top left of the page, then choose.

And you still haven't shown us a screenshot of your "triplicate" files.

what, you think i am lying ?

just flick your owner file open, and then flick open "control panel and take your pick of another
and hang it open, for your clarity this is all on the left side of the screen were you open sub files choices,

and NO i am not giving you a screen shot of my right side content files.

I need a way to gain and keep stable control to keep those options "Closed" until i open them

Ok Rowin I just tried this again , but by going all the way down to bottom of screen empty space and right clicking- which opened a option box called "SHOW ALL FILES OPTION
and then UNCLICKIN to I guess to the off position DA DAH !!!!!
And now i have snuffed 30 LESS dupe or Geek files----- ALL GONE--and just 13 files headings
including c drive stuff that I do want to see.
RoWin saves the day ;)

Wow
I just re read a lot of this thread and while it appears to have mission drift everywhere, its not the "People" writing here, its the broken butt way the documents file is designed and gets stuck hanging open with a mess of sub files cluttering the view, and as usual "User Experience" is being forgotten.

Rowin Chill brother, because the shared files problem (is) was big part of my problem and other's TOO. hope that helps

OK Folks, as stated by others here who have never seen this situation and are having issues grasping it --

in my "files open all over the place documents case"

As pointed out by Rowin7,

1. Go below all your documents with curser to a blank space

2. Right Click in a blank space

3. A option will open out of no place

4. UNCLICK "show all folders option box" which should leave it without a check in it.

5. this should bring your doc table of contents back to some sanity.
