Windows 7 and 4 Gig of Ram

I am going to be installing W7 Home 32-bit. I have 4 gig of ram. Would I be wise to take out 2 gig? I have heard about the problems with more than 2 gig.

I wouldn't take out the RAM. See if it installs first. I do recommend removing unnecessary hardware (USB devices, extra drives, etc) before installing an OS.

Hello Bigmck,

This was an issue with older motherboards that needed a BIOS update, and mostly with 64-bit OS's. You should not have a problem with installing now. If you do, then you can always removed the extra stick and reinstall.

You can leave the Ram in either way but going to 64 bit will allow you to use all 4GB.

Doesn't the Motherboard have to support 64-bit before you can use it? As far as I can tell mine is 32-bit?

Its your CPU that determines whether you can do 64bit or not. (Obviously your motherboard has to support your processor too). What processor are you using? Googling it will tell you if it can handle it or not. Does the Upgrade Advisor say anything about it?

Only the CPU, because the motherboard has to support the CPU. So, if the CPU will work on the motherboard, then the motherboard will support the x64 OS. The only issue is if the board supports 4 GB of emory, and it would be hard to find a recent board that does not.

It will tell you that you have 4 GB of memory installed....but it can't use or address all of it.
