Must reinstall NIC and USB drivers after every reboot

Hi guys,

firstly, I'm running a gigabyte P35 motherboard with a quad core processor and 2 gigs of ram and an Intel chip-set etc. As for hardware, everything is ok and I've had no problems up until now.

About 4 days ago, after rebooting my pc, I noticed firstly that my internet was not working. My pc was telling me that there was no network available to connect to. I did the usual things like power off my router, unplug the ethernet cable from the pc, restart the pc etc, nothing worked. I then thought that perhaps there was a driver problem. I uninstalled my router, and reinstalled the driver again. Lo and behold, it was working. However I then noticed under my USB devices in device manager that they all had the little yellow " ! " mark and none were working. I had to uninstall and reinstall all those drivers again, same as with the NIC, and they worked.

I had hoped that this was the end of that bizarre incident but that was not the case. After a reboot, the same thing happened again. Since that time, every reboot has yielded the same results and it is a real pain in the ass to have to reinstall everything again, and again, and again.

I have no idea what the problem could be as I had no updated anything or installed anything new for this to happen. I've been reading through these forums and noticed one person having a similar USB problem but I believe mine may be a little bit different so any light that could be shed on this would be more than appreciated.

Thanks guys :geek:

Hi Michael and welcome to the Windows 7 forum.
I suggest the following:
On the P-35 motherboard, I would visit the manufacturer web site and update the chipset and see if you have a bios update. After you have updated the chipset, if you have a bios update re-flash your bios.
AFter that reboot and access the bios and see if USB ports are enabled.
It seems after you reboot whatever manual updated are lost and you have to go in and re-install.
Try that and post up a note if you need further assistance.

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

thanks for the warm welcome and the advice.
I have updated my motherboard, the NIC and the bios but it still hasn't fixed my problem. I went into the bios and checked the USB status and everything should be working, but for some reason isn't

Hi Mike, I checked in at MS and found an article about an OP that has setup printsharing on multiple systems. Once he has his settings when ever he did a system re-set he would lose all his settings and printer drivers. I know this is not on the mark but it turned out that he used windows one care and his firewall would block all his settings from saving. Do you have any virus protection etc.?

Good morning Adrian,

I gave the regedit technique a go but it was to no-avail I'm afraid.
I'm running AVG anti-virus but there's no firewall component or anything of the sort other than the standard one that comes with windows.

It's just odd that everything was fine prior to a reboot and then out of nowhere this happened. I seem to be at a loss as I'm still unable to uncover a solution to this issue.

Adrian my man!!

I just went through the installed updates for the past few months and uninstalled the majority of them. I then rebooted my pc and funnily enough, everything is working again. So it would seem that one of these updates was responsible for the error.

Now it's just a matter of finding out which one it was so that I don't re-install the bloody thing again >_<

As I recall there were a huge amount of updates about 2-3 weeks ago. And then 2 days ago. I would check my action center to see if there were any updates for your chipset.

Did you work out what update caused your issue, I just did a clean install of 7 64bit and USB dies everytime i reboot. think it could be related to the Realtek Network drivers?
