display driver nvidia windows kernel .....

191.07 drivers are working now with 7.

with my geforce 9800 gtx pro pci-express 2048 card I can play crisis and other games all on HIGHEST.

I have 3gb ram... my specs are below.

After installing that one I only had problems with the in game resolutions. I had to make them all match my desktop 1680x1050. After I did that they games are playing as the developers intended them to play. AWESOME.

LAG? non existent using 7 with my specs. in Vista it had to tweak tweak and tweak again.

The RAM management in 7 is off the hook. The process you are using has real time no matter what other processes you have running the background.

You have to change your way of thinking about windows now if you upgraded from xp.

If you used Vista for a while you already know some of the things to do.

In 7 let it manage your RAM and just keep your video drivers up to date and you will be amazed.

Try older drivers, Keep going back in drivers untill you find something more stable. Try the latest beta first, then keep moving back. If that doesn't work does your card require extra power from the PSU? Like the 6 pin adapter? Try running with just one card first, then add the seccond card in later.

AHHHH!!! i remember when they did that with the 7 series cards, when they FIRST made one of those. Or was it the 6800's? I don't remember, but they had a lot of driver issues. Win7 might have driver problems due to it being 2 cards in one, maybe a conflict or something.

According to this, it needs to have power connected internally straight from the psu.

That might not be all, since it's 2 cards in one the OS has to send data differently. I don't remember the details, but getting the 2 in 1 cards to work on new os's sometimes is a pain, try the Nvidia forums.
"Sending data" has no bearing on the power requirements for the card. It's simply that if the card has the connector, it needs the 6 or 8 pin connector connected from psu.

but they way the OS interacts with the card can BSOD

Which is why we are here in the first place.

[edit] always remember why we are here, if XP can get the card to run with 3D then I doubt it's power requirements. Because regardless of OS 3D is 3D and it'll suck the power when it wants. But different OS's talk to the cards differently, which can cause conflicts and our lovely BSOD.

Not if bios is up to date, proper chipset drivers are installed and then proper video driver is installed.

If it works in XP there is no hardware problem. If it were a hardware problem all we'd have to do to pinpoint that would be strip the computer of all parts but the HDD/CPU/RAM/Video all the minimums. Run a game in XP for 30+ min or do a stress test for the video. If nothing happens he's got no hardware problem. Just because it's XP vs Vista (or win7) they address the same hardware parts of the card, the only difference is how they do it. which is the calls they use to run the card. This is the beauty of universal hardware.

Well al the cables 6 and 8 pin connectors are straightly connected to the psu, in windows xp i don't have any problems regarding the card, but clearly and i'm very sure of this the problem is the drivers. i'm trying to install the lowest version of drivers i can possibly find.
people told me 186.34 should work, but i still have the problem.

You might have to wait untill Nvidia addresses this issues. It might be something to do with the fact Win7 just came out, I'd be searching the Nvidia forums as I said earlier. Remember, win7 came out less than a month ago... ;) Their bound to have problems.

Yeah but if you've been beta testing since last year, how many of them were running the up to date build? And how many were running the duel 9800 cards with the RTM? How many run it now? Maybe the drivers a year ago had the problem fixed, but how many times do new drivers cause new problems? Either he rolls back untill it works, waits for a new update or what? Get a new card? If everything is up to date then I don't see many other options.

Unless it's something he could fix in the driver, but if it won't boot it just bsod's then...? Try installing vista w/o the nvidia drivers. just use ms's built in drivers, do they work?

i tried downgrading several drivers from nvidia, i don't have any luck with it.
some give the eror alot faster then other drivers but still the problem remains.
also ms build in drivers give me the same problem...
i agree with waiting until either ms or nvidia comes up with a sollution, ill stick to XP for the moment.

This error is caused by windows7's recovery tool "Timeout detection recovery"
It tries to reset the driver when it detects an error.
These errors are less frequent on 180.xx drivers
Possible causes are bad RAM and incorrect settings in BIOS
Your mainboard could also be failing

It could also be related to incorect ram and graphics card voltage.
Did you overclock your system??

Well my computer is under a year old. So if my mainboard starts failing that would be a bit fast no? haven't checked the ram yet, but as i said i'm running Windows xp at the moment and i never had any problems.
but if it's happening since vista, and there still isn't a solid fix for it, i'm afraid ill have to stick with xp :(
*edit*
my computer isn't overclocked in any way
