Modern Warfare 2 and Windows 7

The next step will to charge to use the dedicated servers.
Pay to play. Does not take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding... We have a Winner

The more I hear about the newer games not having dedicated servers, the more apparent it became that, the next logical step for them was going to be... Charging the PC users just like they do the Console counterparts.

Have they made a demo out of it? I am a single player so, if the porting is half as good as the Porting UBIsoft do... I may be in.

I am jonesing for a good shooter game and OFDR did not make it for me.

Picked up the game yesterday and jumped on MP and had a great experience. I haven't had any problems with graphics like some. I'm running everything maxed out 1920x1200. Steam doesn't seem so bad.

I also agree that the obvious direction will soon be pay to play:mad:

Hope to see someone online

I won't be buying the game until they reinstate dedicated servers. Absolutely asinine.

Not to mention... 60 bucks? Are you farking with me? Why is your game that much better that I have to spend 10 more bucks than I would a normal game?

No thanks.

I want to try the Campain mode, I heard that was good. No interest in Mulit-Player, especially not without cheat banning. Of which there is none.

when I heard the news about no MW2 dedicated server support because IW was going to control the MW2 servers with IWNet the first thing that came to my mind is now this opens the door for IW/Activision to charge for PC DLC like maps, new guns, skins, perks, etc. :(

To be honest, Steam and its anticheat system is extremely good. The game should not have many hackers etc. I've played about 3 steam games in the last 2-3 years VERY competitively, the latest being L4D, and I actually have had a ZERO percent hacker problem. Not one.

The only reason it costs 60 dollars for pc is because PS3 and Xbox use blueray discs so they need to be 60 dollars instead of 50 to make up the difference in the quality of disc. They decided why should PC get a break? even tho PC does NOT use blueray discs for install. They figured easy "justifiable" 10 bucks.

I too am boycotting MW2 however. The fact that they took away the dedicated servers for no good reason besides the fact that they want CONTENT CONTROL just hurts me. I literally feel backstabbed by the company as they try and milk me for money when I was anticipating this game AND ITS MODS for so long.

But one of the main reasons they decided dedicated servers was out is content control. They want you to have to pay for their DLC, and they want you to get bored of the game ASAP so you buy the next one they produce within the year. It is quite literally that simple.

It's the depressing truth. Also "leaning" was one of the key parts of the game i used on a regular basis, and for them to take it out, was downright wrong.

This chart is hilarious. Like, "Control Bad Language" is an option that people are sad about losing? I've always thought it was hilarious when you play on one of those "wholesome" servers where you're not allowed to swear at players while you shoot them in the face with an automatic weapon.

Ya that chart is awesome. Somewhat biased. and a few redundant or unimportant categories. But overall. Seriously it's like they made MW2 in 1998 and none of this stuff was invented yet.

i'll stick to cod4 for MP & just clock SP on cod6 & then sell it. (unless the removal of the servers is for all COD series)
That's just it. Your "plan" to Sell it won't work.
In order to play (single player, multi-player, any-player) you must set up a steam account (necessary to activate the game). From that point on, the game belongs to YOU (at least it belongs to the Steam account you set it up on).
You cannot sell or transfer that "key"--steam will not allow it. no way, no how.

On the flip side, you will be able to play on any computer that has steam and is running your account (If you so choose, MW2 will be downloaded and installed for you automatically--no big deal, it is only 11 GB plus change). Steam is very good in that regard--making your steam activated games available to you, wherever you are.

They sure are getting intrusive masking it with Anti-Piracy BS. I think I have allowed to many Co's already on my Computer and now I have to allow Steam as well?

So, to recap... pay 60 bucks for a game that is a console port, then, make an account with steam, whether you like it or not or whether you play Single or MP... sure!

Its official... IW is black listed as well as UBI. I am sure they won't loose any sleep but... neither will I. ;)

This is why people wanted dedicated servers.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHsWZp5pWCo"]YouTube- Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer (PC)[/ame]

And as for IWnet being a better way to stop hackers.

It would be nice if they would just admit the only reason they got rid of dedicated servers and mod support is so they can sell you more crap.

The bad language thing can actually be interpreted as "ability to get rid of troublemakers"...and that is a valid issue for me and my Clan.

We all know the type - they show up and start baiting people...taunting them with in-game typing, intentionally blocking doors, and harassing other players on their team with a wide range of other negative behavior. Perhaps they weren't hugged enough as children, but it happens. On my Clan's dedicated servers, we give them a warning...then a kick...then a temp ban...and finally a perm ban. On MW2, you are stuck...and if you decide to leave a game because they are bothering you, you will lose all the points that you accumulated in that map since the "host" does not upload points to IW.Net until the end of the map.

I have to come clean, I bought the dang thing. :) Someone in my Clan had to so we could check it out. Turns out that two of us did it...and the IW.Net thing is actually worse than I imagined. It's just about impossible for the two of us to hookup and play together...at least without extensive coordination. If I launch Steam and see that he is playing, I right-click and try to join his game and *always* get "server is full." Of course it's full, because team deathmatch on MW2 is just 6 vs 6 players...and the server fills up all six slots on both sides when the game starts. It does not leave a couple open for friends to join other friends...and folks tend not to disconnect midstream because of the aforementioned penalty.

The only way that we can hookup is if one of us "Steam chats" the other and tells them to drop out of their current game...and take the penalty. We then have to jump through a couple hoops to get on the same server elsewhere. No idea how we would get a third person in. Sure, we could create a private server...but we don't want that...because it would be a tree falling in a forest. How the heck would the dozens of other folks with whom we routinely play know about it? Yeah, more Steam coordination I suppose....for up to 12 people max for TD.

What we really want is a place that we can go to join up and play with friends and have folks come and go as they please. We have that with all other versions of COD. We have dedicated servers that at any given time have 20 or so folks on them...including 5 to 10 clan members. You can always go there and drop right in and play with other folks who you know...in an "idiot-free" environment. :) No hassle and you are with friends and well-behaving guests who often become friends.

I could pick the MP and SP game apart for hours after using it, but my biggest criticism is that MW2 rips the heart out of any sense of a gaming community that you may be a part of...and frankly, that is a showstopper for me. I'm not sure how console folks have dealt with this for so long. I suppose it's because country mouse has never been to the city...but after you have been part of a gaming community, it's tough to be slung around between random servers like so much fodder...and deal with 12 year-olds exorcising their demons (or sowing their oats) by harassing other players with impunity.

Your mileage may vary...but I suggest that you save the 60 beans for Bad Co 2.
