Upgrading from Vista x64 to 7 x64 ruined Office 2007

Hello!
Upgrading from Windows Vista x64 to Windows 7 x64 caused the following errors:
Clicking "Change" button in "Programs and features" with Office 2007 Trial selected gives an error "Setup Error
Setup could not find any available products to install. Please contact your system administrator." in Windows 7 x64. Running setup from Office 2007 Trial downloaded file (to change components) works OK.
How to make the "Change" button work?
Windows Update suggests to install 125kb Office 2007 SP1 repeatedly. I agree to install every time, the update installs "successfully", but Windows Update suggests to install it again next time, in an endless loop.
Running manually downloaded Office 2007 SP1 and SP2 gives an error:
"The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database".
The automatic Office repairing does not resolve the problems.
Regards

What about redownloading the trial? Might be a different version out there.

Hi tar and welcome

I know how much of a PITA doing a clean install is but its for situations like this that MS recommended it. The only thin I can think of is if that is the only problem in win 7 that you might be able to un-install and re-install office. There is just too many things to fix in registry and where the files are stored.

Sorry I cant be of Help

Hi Ken J++!
A clean reinstall is much worse than the problems with the Office 2007. It would take too much time and effort to recover all my programs and settings in the programs.

Not near as long as you might think...
1) Uninstall your Microsoft Office products completely and restart your pc to cleanup any references to it.
2) Then use Windows Easy Transfer and backup everything.
3) Re-install windows using custom "Clean install"
4) Re-install your applications using default settings (Including office)
5) Import the Windows Easy Transfer file. this will bring back all of your customizations and settings for your programs.

Easy Transfer does not backup settings for some program

Not near as long as you might think...
1) Uninstall your Microsoft Office products completely and restart your pc to cleanup any references to it.
2) Then use Windows Easy Transfer and backup everything.
3) Re-install windows using custom "Clean install"
4) Re-install your applications using default settings (Including office)
5) Import the Windows Easy Transfer file. this will bring back all of your customizations and settings for your programs.

Thanks bobtran for suggesting!
I can re-install about 20 my applications, but cannot re-install about 30 my applications because I do not have installers for them.
Backing up and re-installing windows and programs can take days and leave me without a working computer.
Windows Easy Transfer does not backup settings for many programs, but only for programs which save settings as MS wants them to save.

In that case I would recommend than you:
1) Delete Microsoft office and restart you pc to remove any references to the product.
2) Do a complete backup of your pc.
3) Delete and reformat.
4) Restore the backup and try re-installing the Microsoft office product.

or

Buy a full version and install it instead of the trial version.

Installing full Office 2007 gives same errors

In that case I would recommend than you:
1) Delete Microsoft office and restart you pc to remove any references to the product.
2) Do a complete backup of your pc.
3) Delete and reformat.
4) Restore the backup and try re-installing the Microsoft office product.

Reformating and restoring the backup would return Windows to the same erroneous state.
I wrote 10 Hours Ago that even installing full Office 2007 Enterprise does not change the behaviour.
I read the same behaviour in other's threads in russian and english.

Update suggests to install SP1 in an endless loop

I am going to guess you've posted this on quite a few forums, because I've read a lot nearly identical threads! Sorry you haven't found any real answer yet. I came across this:

http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...b8-b6c8-fe7a47b39f32&cat=&lang=&cr=&sloc=&p=1

There is a post by n5mj that may help. Scroll about half-way down the thread and try his suggestion.
Thanks kegobeer for suggesting!
The post is about errors during updates installation. I do not have errors during installation. The SP1 installation is "successful". Windows Update suggests to install SP1 in an endless loop.
The "Change" and "Uninstall" buttons give the error.

I understand you don't get an error - I was hoping that the poster's suggestion would still help fix your Office 2007 trial problems.

The only solution we can really offer you is to uninstall office and run a cleanup program (e.g. CCleaner), then reinstall. The only other option (if this doesn't work, and if you really want Office 2007) is to format and perform a clean install.

I have copied a file from Office 2007 Enterprise DVD to MSOCach on my HDD and then manually downloaded SP2 installed successfully! Windows does not suggest to install any important or recommended update any more. I still have the problem with "Change" and "Uninstall" buttons and Office Live does not see that Office 2007 is installed (it does not show the "edit" button).
How to save e-mail accounts with messages during the uninstalling and reinstalling the office?
In 14 years of using Windows, MS professionals suggested to reinstall Windows cleanly about 20 times. I did not reinstall cleanly, and in about two months I or MS found a Windows bug, which caused the problem, and fixed it. Last time, Arthur Li and Thomas Lin (Microsoft Windows Vista Support Professionals) suggested to reinstall Windows cleanly after two months of sending them all reports they required. I did not reinstall and found the bug with Office live and fixed it in two clicks!
I think MS will find the bug with the Office 2007 in Windows 7 x64 in next half a year because other people have this problem too. I will wait.
Regards
