I think that the 86 x in your list is actually x86, which stands for 586, which is simply x32. I don't know your hardware, but if everything is x64 compatible, install x64. The only downside is that some programs and drivers are not compatible with x64, but this is becoming less and less of a factor, but is something to be considered is a particular program or device is critical for you.

not true, it stands for the cpu build (286 which is what the original 32bit arch was). I think the new arch is 586, but it is all backwards compat. Also they have x86-64, which is really the 586 or 686 with 64bit extentions I believe? I'm not sure on this, but x86 stands for the original architecture that they designed 32bit OS for. Though that doesn't mean that every 32bit cpu is x86, it just means that the x86 processors can run that 32bit version of windows. =)

X86 Definition

Yup, correct about the x86-64 extension set [wikipedia.org]. Don't worry about all this though hayper. For all intensive purposes, x86 = 32bit and x64 = 64bit. Its up to you which one you install, your processor is perfectly capable of both. 64bit has come along way in recent years, I would give it a shot.

I say extentions, some say it's true 64bit, some say other ****. If it runs 64bit code it is 64bit, but who cares. =P I just say it that way because I don't want to start the pure64 battle... ;) hahahaha

x64 has a x32 compat api, most (not all, but the programs that won't work usually aren't for the average user...) programs work, and I've never had problems with any game thus so far.
